Surely, We OUGHT To…
There are many things we…..ought to do.
Surely. For instance, we—-
Ought to honor our parents. & we
Ought to work in our career as though we are working unto the Lord. & we
Ought to pick up our Bible and dig into God’s Word daily. & we
Ought to love our neighbors and do all that we can to meet others’ needs. & we
Ought to PRAY & PRAY & PRAY &….without ceasing. & we
Ought to love God with all our heart, all of our soul, all of our mind, and all of our strength.
Yes, we ought to see our faith grow because God delights whenever we do (experience growth in our faith). When we first accepted Christ as Savior, that was a miraculous moment within our being, and nothing can ever happen that will cause God to relinquish His Salvation.
We are His Forever!
BUT….if our faith has not grown since that day, then it ought to (have grown). Would we ever desire to have a newborn baby and feed that baby for the next 35 years, never seeing the newborn rollover, sit up, crawl, and walk? Of course, we wouldn’t; we enjoy those milestones our children work through as they grow up. In order to grow, our children need nourishment….a daily intake of healthy foods and drink.
In October 1981, I was fifteen years old, and that fall, God changed me. That autumn season I asked God into my heart, and from that moment, I was a new creature, a new individual, a new babe in Christ. From that moment, I began to live differently.
But what if I didn’t (live differently)?
But what if God’s Salvation had not changed my habits, my thoughts, or my actions?
But what if others could not tell that God was my Father?
But what if others could not see Jesus living inside me?
But what if God’s Holy Spirit did not direct my path, my decisions, and my actions?
What if I had not changed at all, but kept living on with my fire insurance inside my pocket, but never allowing Jesus to become LORD of my life?
Well, we ought to……see our faith grow.
We ought to grow and grow and grow and grow and grow and grow &… until one day we step home (in heaven).
In the Bible, we see God’s Word revealed to those living at Thessalonica in Paul’s second letter to them. We see how they (like us) were urged how they “ought to” (as well).
“We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;
(2 Thessalonians 1: 3-5)
Therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.
This is a plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering.”
- We ought to grow in our faith.
- We ought to give thanks to God for His Salvation.
- We ought to know we will be afflicted and persecuted in this earthly domain where we temporarily live.
- We ought to remember that someday soon, we will go home to be within God’s presence forevermore.
- We ought to walk daily, as Isaiah proclaimed, crying out to God, “Here am I. Send me!” to Wherever and to Whomever and to Whatever You—God would send us to do. (Isaiah 6:8).
- We ought to.
- We ought to be so deep into God’s Word, studying, meditating, and praying over God’s Word that it permeates through our entire being.
We will falter & We will fall down.
But, when we do (just as we did when we were learning to walk). We stayed on our knees for awhile & then we crawled right back over to the nearest furniture and pulled back up to walk again….step-by-step. Before we knew it, we were not toddling along. Before we knew it, we were outside—-running free.
We ought to SERVE our LORD with gladness.
Yes, most definitely. We OUGHT to do THAT today!!!
