A Love Letter
Dear _________,
I cannot imagine my life without you. There is no way I could go on if You were suddenly stripped from my presence. It is You who holds me steady. It is You who lights up my days, my nights, and every place in between. Yes, it truly is You & Your presence I take most delight in today.
If my life were to be suddenly placed in jeopardy, it is You upon whom I would lean. It is You who keeps me from shaking in the dark. It is You who holds me tight. It is You who I will wait upon, even when the day of suffering seems so long. It is you……I will wait……whether I wait for a minute, an hour, a cascade of hours, a whole day, a host of days, a full month, or even twelve months for a full year….I will wait for You for decades of years, for a lifetime of years…..I will wait for an eternity……for YOU.
My love for You grows stronger as I am afforded more time to seek You.
Your love for me endures & endures. & endures.
If everything and everyone were taken, still I could stand (even though I would feel as if my world was over), still I could place one foot in front of another, and still I could raise my hands toward heaven in praise.
WHY!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of my friends do not understand my deep devotion for YOU.
Some of my family think I am insane in my devotion to YOU.
Some of my colleagues see my convictions and my walk with You as just a hindrance, but clearly they don’t yet know YOU.
So lead me to live as YOU would have me live.
Yes, lead me by YOUR right hand so I will not stumble under the weight and pain and fear endured from this, my earthly life.
Lead Me.
Keep Me.
Protect Me.
Sustain Me.
Reveal Yourself More and More to Me.
Reveal Yourself to me as I study, as I dig deep into YOUR WORD.
Help Me…..to witness for You, to testify of Your goodness, of Your Salvation.
With Love,
Your Child
When we first began reading this love letter, it could have been a love letter written to anyone (a spouse, a parent, a child of ours, or to any other person we dearly love), BUT THEN, if we see the capitalized YOU begin to form a pattern, and we see the progression of the love letter. If we believe in God, then we realize this letter is NOT just a letter to a person, but a letter to God, a letter to God’s Most Holy Son Jesus, & a letter to God’s Sweet Holy Spirit. We see with clarity that this is not just any ole’ love letter, but…..THE ULTIMATE LOVE LETTER of OUR HEART.
The psalmist Asaph proclaimed it well when he wrote within God’s Word-—
“Nevertheless I am continually with You;
(Psalm 73:24-28)
You have taken hold of my right hand.
With Your counsel You will guide me,
And afterward receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but You?
And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
For, behold, those who are far from You will perish;
You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You.
But as for me; the nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
That I may tell of all Your works.”
LORD, help us live today for the world to see Jesus…..Only JESUS.
LORD, help us live with our eyes upon YOU……Only YOU GOD.
LORD, help us to walk, led step-by-step, faithfully trusting……Only Your Sweet Holy Spirit.
LORD, HELP US……TODAY……NOT TAKE A SHORTCUT TO INTIMACY WITH YOU.
LORD, HELP US……TODAY…….TO SEEK TO UNDERSTAND YOU MORE THROUGH THE STUDY OF YOUR MOST HOLY WORD.
LORD, GUIDE US.
LORD, LEAD US.
LORD, HELP US KEEP OUR EYES ONLY UPON YOU.
LORD, LEAD US TO THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW YOU.
LORD, GIVE US COURAGE, GRANT US BOLDNESS TO SPEAK OF YOUR GOODNESS, OF SALVATION FOUND ONLY IN YOU.
LORD, We trust you with our future, with our challenging life-situations, with our daily work, with our relationships, with our very life, with our eternity……With our Everything!!!!
So on this beautiful day, help us LORD to trust and lean upon God.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And HE Will make your paths straight [straight to HIM….to GOD].” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
BECAUSE…..
“I have made the LORD GOD my refuge,
That I may tell of all Your works” (Psalm 73:28).
