Can We Describe Him, Really Describe Him……Do We Know Him?
In a child’s eyes, mommy is just mommy and daddy is just daddy. Ask any small child to describe their mommy and daddy; see their perplexed look. WHY?
Well, mommy……she has hair, she loves, she smells good, she hugs tightly, she makes good food, she works, she cleans up all our cuts and scrapes, she makes our every hurt…hurt less through her kisses, and she always finds bargains so we have more money to spend on other things we want to do for fun. That’s mommy.
Well, daddy…….he has big muscles in his arms, and shorter hair than mommy’s, he leaves for work when we still sleep, he fixes anything that breaks, he lets us crawl up in his lap at night when he is resting, he holds us and often rubs our back, he’s tall, and he disciplines us when we disobey, he hugs us tight when we cry, and we really don’t want to disappoint daddy.
Mommy & Daddy. Sure, when we are lost, separated and cannot find our way home, we can easily describe them to the ones who ask us.
There was a small child who wandered away, and the crowd was extremely large, over a thousand. This little one, a small girl, walked and walked and walked, looking around at the big world, playing, & having fun. She did not know she was lost. No, not at all. Until she stopped wandering, stopped playing, stopped running, stopped and looked up with her large, round eyes…….until she realized she was lost, she did not know she was lost.
BUT THEN SHE DID.
YES, THEN SHE SAW HER LOSTNESS.
MOST ASSUREDLY, SHE KNEW FEAR WHEN SHE STOPPED TURNING, STOPPED PLAYING, STOPPED AND STOOD PERFECTLY STILL……THAT WAS WHEN SHE KNEW SHE WAS LOST & IT SCARED HER.
YES! SUDDENLY, SHE WAS SCARED TO DEATH!!!
As a child of God, we have opportunity to decide how well we know our heavenly Father.
As a lost soul, loved by God, but separated and lost, we have opportunity to decide if we want to know the Father of this universe.
To know God is a choice.
TO KNOW GOD…..REALLY KNOW HIM…..PERSONALLY KNOW GOD…..INTIMATELY…&…DEEPLY KNOW HIM IN A ONE-TO-ONE RELATIONSHIP…….TRULY THIS IS EVERY PERSON’S CHOICE.
Every day, we are given a choice, a decision, a question to answer.
Even when we are 2 years of age, and though we may live 101 more years (until age 103) OR Even if we are 54 years of age, and though we may live 49 more years (until age 103)…..there would still not be sufficient time to totally exhaust all there is to know about our heavenly Father.
We know God when we SEEK Him (with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength).
We know God when we SEARCH to understand more about Him today than we knew yesterday.
We know God when we STRIVE to obey Him.
We know God when we WANT Him more than anything.
We know God when we CHOOSE to know God.
We know God when we ASK Him to reveal Himself through His Word (the Bible)….when we READ & STUDY.
We know God when we TALK with Him (through prayer).
We know God as intimately as we CHOOSE to know God because as we….
WE KNOW GOD MORE INTIMATELY WHEN WE DESIRE TO KNOW HIM MORE. &
WE KNOW GOD MORE AS WE SEEK HIM, AS HE REVEALS HIMSELF TO US.
Matthew, one of the twelve chosen apostles, was a tax collector by trade. He understood the importance of precise study. Matthew knew what it meant to focus, and Matthew knew that he needed alone time with his Savior to really know our LORD. We know that we (too) need alone time with our Savior to really know our LORD. In the Bible, we find these words (written by Matthew), the inspired Word of God, given from God to mankind.
“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
(Matthew 6: 5-6)
But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.”
Until we recognize we are lost, we cannot be found.
Until we know we are hungry, we will not desire to be fed.
Until we sense our thirst, we will not seek the living water that quenches all thirst.
Until we stop running….
stop playing….
stop turning and….
Just STOP….
Until we cry out to Him……that is when……
We can find our Father.
That is when we can intimately know our Father.
In the Bible, we find these words (written by Paul), the inspired Word of God, given from God to mankind. Paul wrote to those living in Ephesus.
“This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out [God did] in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Ephesians 3:11-19)
In whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him [in God].
Therefore I ask you not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, for they are your glory.
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you [God would], according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His [Holy] Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”
Many may say they want to know God. They may even Play at, Turn toward, Run to, & Spend a life with only a surface-deep focus on their relationship with God. May we NOT be found within that group, but may we be found within the group who…..
SEEKS. &
SEARCHES. &
STRIVES. &
WANTS. &
CHOOSES. &
ASKS. &
READS. &
STUDIES. &
TALKS WITH. &
REALLY DESIRES……&
REALLY CHOOSES TO KNOW…….OUR FATHER GOD.
