Look at your life
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think,
(The Letter of Paul to the Ephesians 3: 20 NASB)
according to the power that works within us,”
God wants to do amazing things in us and through us. Thus, the questions become: Am I prepared? Are you prepared? Are we who have placed our faith in Jesus—prepared—for the amazing things God wants to do in and through us?
At age fifty-nine and after thirty years of teaching, many often ask me: Are you going to retire soon? When they do, I find myself recalling the answer I have given so often: “I may retire from teaching someday, but I hope to work (at something) until I reach eighty-five because I hope to live until I am 103.” Many people laugh whenever I speak that response, and I am sure many think I am crazy. Maybe I am, but health can often be connected to activity; therefore, to live long might be key to staying busy at the tasks the Lord places before us. God has given us hands so that we may be the hands of Jesus. God has also given us feet, so that we can be the feet of Jesus. Our hearts ought to beat for that which the Lord deems most important. Whenever we take our eyes off the One “who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think,” then we displease the Lord.
Look at your life.
- Are you in need of repentance?
God’s prophet Isaiah was led by the Spirit to write—
“Remember the former things long past,
(The Book of Isaiah 46: 9 NASB)
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me.”
Look at your life.
- Is there something that you have allowed to become more important than your relationship with God?
Jehovah God resides above all other earthly gods. God’s servant Moses wrote this prayer in worship to the Creator.
“Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
(The Psalms 90: 1-2 NASB)
Before the mountains were born
Or You gave birth to the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
Look at your life.
- Is there something that you and I need to leave behind as we step forward in faithfulness to follow more closely the One in Whom we have believed?
God is our refuge, our dwelling place because we who believe in Him are His people. We remain secure in His everlasting arms, despite what our day might bring. We are not bound by our circumstances, by our troubles, by others’ actions, or by what this world has for us. No, we are not, for we are sealed with His Holy Spirit dwelling inside us, leading us, and guiding our next steps.
Thus, when others ask us: Will we do this or Will we do that?
Then our response should be: “Lord willing, I will do this or do that.” Then we need to bow in prayer and seek the Lord’s guidance, His leadership, and His direction to know that which we are to do (next). Our faith is a moment-by-moment, step-by-step walking with the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Creator led His servant Moses to prayerfully compose:
“As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years,
(The Psalms 90: 10-12 NASB)
Or if due to strength, eighty years,
Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow;
For soon it is gone and we fly away.
Who understands the power of Your anger [God]
And Your fury, [Lord] according to the fear that is due You [Jehovah]?
So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”
- Yes, Lord, teach us to look at our lives, to see if we are walking worthy to the calling you have for us.
- Help us, Lord, to look intentionally at our lives, to understand those things we are to be about doing.
- Lead us, Lord, to count the cost of our lives, looking at the short time of our lives You have allotted to us to live here on earth. Guide us to be sure that we are walking toward and within those things that you would have us to step into during our days.
The man who said he was the least of God’s, the apostle Paul was led by the Holy Spirit to write to the believers (to you & to me)—
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think,
(The Letter of Paul to the Ephesians 3: 20 NASB)
according to the power that works within us,
to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
