No Longer Orphans
- Before we knew Jesus as our Savior, we understood the Law of Physics.
- Before we studied the Law of Physics in science class, we understood the Law of Morality.
We are not animals that have evolved over time. Even the hardened criminal encounters certain situations in life and exclaims: “That’s just not fair.” As people, created by Holy God, we have received the ability to think rational thoughts and to ponder abstract concepts. We know that 2+2=4 as well as the powerful scientific fact that the earth is round. Nevertheless, the truth of the existence of God alludes some, as well as the truth—God Himself placed an innate desire to know Him in relationship, deep within every person’s soul.
In the Bible, the author of The Letter to the Hebrews was led by the Spirit of Truth to write these words.
“By faith we understand that the worlds
(The Letter to the Hebrews 11:3 NASB)
were prepared by the word of God,
so that what is seen
was not made out of things which are visible.”
- We have the unique power to reason.
&
- We have a free will to decide.
It is the atheist who has to explain AWAY the beliefs of others, & it is the atheist who believes the assumption: God does not exist. Their cause is to say, “There is no evidence that God exists.” However, evidence exists, and has continued to exist since God spoke the world into existence & fashioned man with His fands. Therefore, yes, the writer to the Hebrews was correct when he wrote: “By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, . . “
It is the unbeliever who has to stake his claim on why he chooses to NOT believe. Just as, we who do believe, know how it was the LORD GOD HIMSELF who placed that freewill, that decision-making choice within the unbeliever, just as HE also gave that same freewill of choice to the believer. Both individuals can see the evidence in the natural world. They can both climb mountains, play in the sea, watch the sun ascend up from the horizon, and see the beauty found when, just hours later, that same sun descends toward the horizon and sets. The writer to the Hebrews was correct when he wrote: “so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.”
Every day, people choose to believe in God. Even while this choice is a private event occurring within the one who believes, still, the watching world sees how the person’s life drastically changes. We who already believe and have placed our faith in God understand, for we have existed there, caught between belief and unbelief. We know how the unbelieving ones now walk.
So, to the watching world, the changed ones (those who have been transformed from death to life) speak of how they encountered God, a real Person. Again, to the watching world, when this encountering (with God) occurs through the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity, the Spirit of Truth, then the one who has come face-to-face with God provides a powerful testimony. It is observable & it is evident.
When Jesus walked the earth, being fashioned as a man, He walked, talked, ate, bled, and wept—like a man. Yet there remained one significant difference: He was the Son of God, sent by the Father to bring redemption to mankind. Thus, Jesus walked as a man but did not sin like man. In Him, the way of salvation has been established. His beloved disciple John recorded it so within The Gospel According to John.
Jesus called certain men of various professions to follow Him, and as they did, they witnessed the ministry and miracles of Jesus. As followers, they walked beside Him, spoke with Him, listened to Him speak, slept beside Him, and experienced life with Him for three brief years. Then Jesus told them He would return to the Father. You can imagine how troubled, how frightened, how terrified these men were, as they attempted to navigate in their minds what their lives would look like once Jesus was gone.
- Jesus knew they were troubled in their hearts, for He is the Son of the living God.
- Jesus understood their fear, for He is the One who was sent by God.
- Jesus sensed their terror, for he loved them, as only the Savior could.
[Jesus said to them] “I will ask the Father,
and He will give you another Helper,
- that He may be with you forever;
- that is the Spirit of truth,
whom the world cannot receive,
because it does not see Him or know Him,
but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
- I will not leave you as orphans;
- I will come to you.
After a little while
- the world will no longer see Me,
- but you will see Me;
- because I live,
- you will live also.
In that day you will know that I am in My Father,
and you in Me,
and I in you.
He who has My commandments
and keeps them is the one who loves Me;
and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father,
and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
(The Gospel According to John 14: 16-21 NASB)
- Think of the Comfort.
- Think of the Hope.
- Think of the Inner-Peace.
- Think of the Promised Future & the Promised Presence of the Helper.
Think of the Resurrection!
Just imagine what ”In that day” will be like for those who believe in Jesus, for those who believe in Jesus’s work on Calvary’s cross, & who believe in Jesus’s work in the tomb. Yes, just imagine what “that day” will be like for those who are resurrected from the grave to share eternity with HIM!
The Bible is clear on this. If we have already died, and however our body exists (buried, cremated, or buried at sea), Jesus Christ will come in the clouds with the sound of a trumpet, and we will rise up to meet Him in the clouds. Do not believe me but read what the Bible records in The 1st Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians. We, who are the dust of the earth & who have died—will rise up from our graves to live eternally with our Savior. Also true, we who are the dust of the earth & who remain alive at Jesus’s second coming—will rise up from our graves to live eternally with our Savior. However, while we are alive, there remains a choice, a decision to be made.
BELIEVERS—JUST THINK OF THE RESURRECTION!
& REMEMBER, UNTIL “THAT DAY,” OCCURS, JESUS HAS PROMISED US—
- The Spirit of Truth will lead us, just as He did the disciples.
- The Holy Spirit abides within us, dwelling inside every believer.
- The 3rd Person of the Holy Trinity guides us, helps us, and gives us His Peace.
Seph Schlueter sings the melody “Won’t Start Now,” a song that reminds us of our PRESENT & ETERNAL HOPE.
Thus, in closing, see the words Jesus spoke to His chosen disciples—
“These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.
(The Gospel According to John 14: 25-29 NASB)
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,
He will teach you all things,
and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
Peace I leave with you;
My peace I give to you;
not as the world gives do I give to you.
Do not let your heart be troubled,
nor let it be fearful.
You heard that I said to you,
‘I go away,
and I will come to you.’
If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father,
for the Father is greater than I.
Now I have told you before it happens,
so that when it happens,
[Jesus speaks of His death, His burial, & His resurrection from the grave]
you may believe. ”
