A walk through life toward eternity

How Can We Know We Are His?

“Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,

Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.”

(The Psalms 139: 7-10 NASB)

People of the world often ask:

  • How can you know you belong to God?
  • How can you know you are what you claim to be—a child of God?

That’s when I take them outside on a clear, sunny day, one when the wind brings a sweet breeze.  As I unravel the string of the kite that I brought out with us, I begin to speak about God’s Holy Spirit and the saving Grace of God.

  • I have never seen God with my physical eyes; yet I know He is present with me.
  • I have never heard God with my physical ears; yet He speaks to me.
  • I have never physically touched my Savior; yet His Spirit fills me.

How can we (who believe) know we are His?

Walk out of your house; go out into an open field with your kite. Unravel your kite string as you stand up on the hill.  Feel the gentle breeze lifting your kite into the sky.  Allow the kite to go high, way into the clouds, out of sight.  Though you cannot see the kite with your eyes, you are tethered together:  you and the kite.  You sense the string right there in your hand, and when the wind blows, the kite moves, and you feel the tug.

When the Holy Spirit moves, as God’s child, you sense the tug on your soul, on your being, & you know.

You know that you know—You Are His!

You know that you know—You Belong to Him!

You know that you know—You are His Possession!

You know—HE IS PRESENT WITHIN YOU!

“The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,”

(The Letter of Paul to the Romans 8: 16 NASB)

JESUS GAVE HIMSELF.

JESUS GAVE HIS LIFE.

JESUS GAVE HIS PRECIOUS BLOOD ON CALVARY’S CROSS.

HE gave HIS life to redeem us.

  • The Messiah took our sins and washed them clean.
  • Jesus’ sacrificial death purifies for Himself a people who now belong to Him.
  • As the children of God, we are HIS OWN POSSESSION, bought with His precious blood.

Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,

Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.”

(The Psalms 139: 7-10 NASB)

We are no longer separated from God because of Jesus—HE is with us—His Presence—His Spirit.

We are His children—GOD’S!

Our faith is not found on anything other than God’s only begotten Son & God’s nearness is the core of our eternal HOPE!

Since we belong to God, why does He leave His children here on earth for a time?  Yes, why doesn’t God just hurriedly bring us home to heaven when we are saved?

The apostle Paul testified to answer these questions when he was led by the Holy Spirit to write to a fellow child of God, to Titus.

For the grace of God has appeared,
bringing salvation to all men,
instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly,
righteously and godly in the present age,
looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior,

Christ Jesus,
who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed,
and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession,
zealous for good deeds.
These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority.
Let no one disregard you.”

(The Letter of Paul to Titus 2: 11-15 NASB)

How Can We Know We Are His?

And if we belong to God, why does He leave His children here on earth for a time?

The answers truly are so sweet.

We are here on earth to glorify Jesus!

&

We are here for a short time so we can reflect His good into the world!

&

We are here and not immediately transcended into heaven so we can testify of Him, of Jesus, witnessing to those who are lost, who do not feel that sweet tug of God’s Holy Spirit.

We are here to tell others, those who need to meet our Savior!
