Keep Yourselves in the Love of GOD
“He who dwells
(The Psalms 91: 1-2 NASB)
in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide
in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the LORD,
“My refuge and my fortress,
My God,
in whom I trust!”
Many people speak of God, and some individuals even say: “I’ve heard of Jesus,” but there remains a vast majority who DO NOT PERSONALLY KNOW JESUS & that HE BRINGS ETERNAL LIFE!
When my husband deployed to a foreign land for the first time, we stood in our bedroom, packing his seabag. Inside the bottom, he placed an empty five-gallon bucket, and I remember asking: “Why do you need to take a bucket with you to Iraq?”
“This bucket can be used to do laundry,” he replied.
Inside the bucket, several other items were placed, but one particular object remains in my mind today—a camouflage handkerchief printed with the verses: The Psalms 91: 1-2.
- We (who believe) must dwell.
- We (who believe) must stay under the shelter of God.
- We (who believe) must abide.
- We (who believe) must remain in the shadow of God.
- We (who believe) must speak with full-assurance.
- We (who believe) must testify of the One in whom we have believed.
“My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust.” (The Psalms 91: 2b NASB)
We are to Keep ourselves in the Love of GOD.
Today, as I read about the disciples who listened to the words of Jesus and left following Him, I am reminded of the words printed on that handkerchief, the one my husband carried into battle with him.
Jesus was speaking and teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum, and many of His disciples were struggling to understand.
“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life,
(The Gospel According to John 6: 54-58 & 61-64a NASB)
and I will raise him up on the last day.
For My flesh is true food,
and My blood is true drink.
He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.
As the living Father sent Me,
and I live because of the Father,
so he who eats Me,
he also will live because of Me.
This is the bread which came down out of heaven;
not as the fathers ate and died;
he who eats this bread will live forever.”
. . .
“But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them,
“Does this cause you to stumble?
What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?
It is the Spirit who gives life;
the flesh profits nothing;
the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
But there are some of you who do not believe.”
- Many people speak of God.
- Some individuals even say: “I’ve heard of Jesus.”
- However, there remains a vast majority who—
DO NOT PERSONALLY KNOW JESUS & that HE BRINGS ETERNAL LIFE BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE TO NOT BELIEVE!
How we live our life—matters!
How we walk daily—is noticed by those who do not yet know Jesus as their Savior!
The days we are given to walk upon this earth are numbered, but as His children, our destiny is sure. Therefore, we are to be a person of integrity and of influence because we are to point others to Jesus.
True, we are not perfect, and our children know this best, but as we seek God—
WE WALK BY FAITH.
- DWELLING IN HIS SHADOW &
- ABIDING UNDER GOD’S SHADOW &
- TESTIFYING HOW JESUS IS OUR REFUGE & OUR FORTRESS &
- TELLING WHOEVER WILL LISTEN HOW WE TRUST JESUS.
JESUS IS NOT JUST ONE OF THE MANY WAYS TO HEAVEN;
JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY!
Salvation comes as the Almighty, Holy God comes to live, to dwell inside those who believe.
The person who believes knows this.
- May we be SO changed, living So changed—here on earth—so others will see JESUS & believe in HIM.
- May we be SO changed, living So changed—proclaiming as ambassadors—so others will hear the name of JESUS & place their trust in HIM.
“But you, beloved,
(The Letter of Jude 20-25 NASB)
building yourselves up on your most holy faith,
praying in the Holy Spirit,
keep yourselves in the love of God,
waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
And have mercy on some, who are doubting;
save others,
snatching them out of the fire;
and on some have mercy with fear,
hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,
and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy,
to the only God our Savior,
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
be glory, majesty, dominion and authority,
before all time and now and forever. Amen.”
