Abide in Him; therefore, bear much fruit
- For that reason . . .
- Consequently . . .
- As a result . . .
- Hence . . .
- Thus . . .
- With that being so . . .
- Since that is the case . . .
- Wherefore . . .
“Therefore” is an adverb, meaning it is a word that modifies a verb (a word displaying action).
- For example, cats do not like dogs and fight because of their dislike; therefore, keeping them separated is better for both parties.
- Also applicable, sleep is vitally important; therefore, eliminate every distraction and detrimental factor that prevents one from closing his eyes in peaceful & restful sleep.
“Therefore” introduces a conclusion, a logical result following an action.
- For example, students wish to graduate; therefore, they must study and complete their assigned tasks.
- Also applicable, a project did not receive the necessary funding; therefore, the project had to be abandoned.
Just yesterday during class, I remember encouraging my students to use transitional words in their next essay, saying these words to my students, the same words my pastor had spoken to me. “Use the word ‘therefore’ within your sentences because this reminds the reader it is ‘THERE—FORE’ a reason. When our reader sees the word (therefore), then this solitary word brings a conclusion to all that has previously been said.”
Thousands of years ago, the psalmist wrote this concluding line—
“Therefore Your servant loves it.”
- What is the ‘it’ the servants of God love?
- What is the ‘it’ God’s servants honor, cherish, and love more than breath itself?
- What is the ‘it’ Christ-followers are to dig deep into every day God has given them to live?
THE BIBLE—GOD’S HOLY WORD!
However, even before the psalmist wrote the concluding line (the case why, the result of), he explained how we are able to understand why we must deeply LOVE GOD’S WORD, THE BIBLE. We (the servants of Almighty God) are to love God’s Holy Word because—
“Your word is very pure,”
In the Bible, we read that on the night before His crucifixion, Jesus shared time with His disciples in the upper room during the Passover season. During this time, Jesus prepared these chosen men for the upcoming events, speaking of His Holy Spirit, of the vine and the branches, of a believer’s relation to one another, and of their oneness with the Father, because of the Son Jesus Christ.
Jesus reminded His disciples of the way they could understand His incomprehensible love.
The eternal love of God we can never fully comprehend remains an abiding, deep, and immeasurable LOVE. Just as the Father loves His Son, we are promised this same love from the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Savior, & the Redeemer.
IT IS A PROMISE OF GOD!
- Therefore, we must keep His commandments—Just as Jesus did.
- Thus, as we do, we will abide in His Love—If we keep His commandments.
So, what does this truly mean?
- The greatest evidence that we can display to the watching world. &
- The greatest evidence that we can know that we know if a person has been redeemed by God—Is seen through the evidence of a person’s changed life.
The Word of God tells us so!
- Stay daily in God’s Word.
- Hold fast to our confession.
- Do not waver in our belief.
God is 100% faithful, just as He promised!
- Love one another.
- Do good in the world as God’s Holy Spirit leads us.
- Assemble with other believers regularly.
- Encourage one another.
Stay in constant communion with the Holy Spirit—abide in The Word—God in the flesh, made alive through Jesus!
- Testify to the lost souls surrounding us.
- Keep one eye on this world & the second eye on the clouds—looking for Jesus!
Abide in Him; therefore, bear much fruit.
