Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

My—NEW—Name

“Behold, the LORD has proclaimed to the end of the earth,
Say to the daughter of Zion,
“Lo, your salvation comes;
Behold His reward is with Him, and
His recompense before Him.”
And they will call them,
The holy people,
The redeemed of the LORD”;
And you will be called,
Sought out,
a city not forsaken.”

(The Book of Isaiah  62: 11-12 NASB)

Thirty-eight years ago, my name changed, and that was a big deal.  For nineteen years, my name had been written one way, and now, the world would call me by another name, my—NEW—Name.  To be honest, as the day drew near for my—NEW—Name, I found myself practicing the writing of my—NEW—Name.  As I held the pencil and attempted my best cursive signature, the letters felt strange as the stroke of the pencil created my—NEW—Name.  Quite ironically, my last name changed when (at nineteen) I faced my soon-to-be-husband, said:  “I do,” and suddenly became Nancy New.

As I reflect upon the way my identity changed when I received my—NEW—name, I find myself reminded how the LORD created a miracle in me forty-three years ago, when in 1981, the God of the universe saved my soul.  After living fifteen years, I found myself face-to-face with the reality that I was lost, doomed for hell, and in need of a Savior.  The reality of this truth struck me hard, and at first I fought against it, ran the other way, and ignored the LORD’S calling.  Nevertheless, my beautiful Savior persisted.

THANK YOU, JESUS—

  • For not giving up on me and for coming after me
  • For changing my name
  • For giving me—my NEW name—  &
  • For saving my soul for all eternity.

As the prophet Isaiah spoke to the children of Israel, these same words the LORD speaks to me through His Holy Word.

“And they will call them,
The holy people,
The redeemed of the LORD”;
And you will be called,
Sought out,
a city not forsaken.”

(The Book of Isaiah  62: 12 NASB)
  • One moment, I was forsaken & suddenly I was GOD’S!
  • One moment, I was lost & suddenly I was REDEEMED!
  • One moment, I was sin-soaked and apart from God & suddenly I was called HOLY!

Almighty God sent His Only Son, who sought after each one of us, calling us to Him, standing and knocking at our heart’s door.  We only need to say:  “Yes, Lord, come into my heart; forgive my sins; & become my Savior and Lord.”  The Bible speaks of this marriage of the Lamb of God to His child.  No longer are we forsaken, desolate or lost because now we are empowered, embraced and HIS!

Your—NEW—Name & My—NEW—Name—CHRISTIAN—Is Found Through God’s Amazing Grace!

“Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude
and like the sound of many waters
and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying,
Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come
and His bride has made herself ready.”

It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean;
for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

Then he said to me,
“Write,
Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ “

And he said to me,
These are true words of God.”

(The Revelation to John 19: 6-9 NASB)
