Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Do We Fully Honor & Glorify the LORD?

“Moses said,
“By this you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these deeds;
for this is not my doing.
If these men die the death of all men or
if they suffer the fate of all men,
then the LORD has not sent me.
But if the LORD brings about an entirely new thing
and the ground opens its mouth
and swallows them up with all that is theirs,
and they descend alive into Sheol,

then you will understand that these men have spurned the LORD.”

(Numbers 16: 28-30 NASB)

Today is September 28th, my dad’s birthday (if he were alive on earth), and we should be celebrating his eighty-third birthday (if he had not passed away twenty-five years ago).  Years ago, my dad easily gained my full attention.  Yes, I can say with affirmation that I never doubted who was in charge—when my dad was present.  He was.

  • My dad was a loving man.
  • My dad was a caring man.

Both of these characteristics could be witnessed through his daily actions.  Over the years, I have said, “My dad never sent me out to do his task unassisted.”  That’s right.  Dad would always go with us, work beside us, guide us, work hard near us, showing us the value of work.  In looking back over my life, it is easy to see how he taught me to value a good work ethic.  Indeed, when I see others sharing time with their dads, I often wish my dad could have remained alive longer, here on earth, so that we could share even more time together.

Today, as I recall my dad’s memory, I come face-to-face with my heavenly Father.  This is my forty-third-year walking as a child of God, and I find myself asking:

  • “Am I walking closer to the LORD today than when I first believed?”
  • “Do I give God the full honor He deserves?”
  • “Am I glorifying my Father as is His due?”

I can say with FULL affirmation that we should never doubt who commands complete control of heaven and earth.  God remains in charge.  He does.

In The Book of Isaiah, the prophet provides the LORD’S words, revealing with clarity just exactly how we are to worship Him & what God has done in His authority to those who do not.

“Then the Lord said,
“Because this people draw near with their words
And honor Me with their lip service,
But they remove their hearts far from Me,
And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,
Therefore behold,
I will once again deal marvelously with this people,
wondrously marvelous;
And the wisdom of their wise men will perish,
And the discernment of their discerning men will be concealed.”

(The Book of Isaiah 29: 13-14 NASB)

The prophet of God reminds us—our worship matters!

  • Our worship to God must be sincere because our worship is not a game we play!
  • Our worship is not something we just go through the motions, doing, but not really honoring God!
  • We are to worship in awe!
  • We are to worship Him with our obedience.
  • We are to worship God: His Character, His Glory & His Honor.

Our heart should be full of the fear of the LORD!

We must not give Him only our lip-service!

We only need to open God’s Word to see how God’s servant Moses reminded Korah and the other priests present that day—just exactly who was in control.  God was!

They could know 100% that God had sent Moses to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt and into the Promise Land.  The power of God would be revealed through a mighty, marvelous work—if they offered whimsical worship to God.  Moses offered them an “if then & if that” situation, reminding them how they should reverence God’s power.  Their very lives were at stake.

“If these men die the death of all men or
if they suffer the fate of all men,
then the LORD has not sent me.
But if the LORD brings about an entirely new thing
and the ground opens its mouth
and swallows them up with all that is theirs,
and they descend alive into Sheol,

then you will understand that these men have spurned the LORD.

As he [Moses]
finished speaking all these words,
the ground that was under them split open;
and the earth opened its mouth
and swallowed them up,
and their households,
and all the men who belonged to Korah with their possessions.
So they and all that belonged to them went down alive to Sheol;
and the earth closed over them,
and they perished from the midst of the assembly.”

(Numbers 16: 29-33 NASB)
  • Do we Fully Honor & Glorify the LORD?
  • Do we Fully See God’s Consuming Fire?
  • Do we Fully Stand in Awe, Totally Amazed?
  • Do we Fully Worship the LORD as we Must?
  • Do we Fully Obey the LORD as we are Commanded?
  • Do we—or—Do we merely give HIM our lip-service?

May we not be deceived by Satan, but may we seek the discerning wisdom of God.

Note the wise words of Solomon:

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

(The Proverbs 9: 10 NASB)
