Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, . . .”

“Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”

(The Gospel According to John 14: 8 NASB)

Have you ever wondered about the way the chosen apostles, the men who walked with Jesus, the ones who could reach out and touch the Savior—questioned Jesus Christ in such odd ways?

Maybe you have not, but I have and sometimes still do.

At times, I wonder:  How could flesh & blood men—Who could touch the Son of God who came to earth and lived on earth, walked, breathed, existed in the form as a man for thirty-three years—ever doubt Jesus was just who He said He was?

Maybe the apostles doubted at times because they were just like us.

  • Do we ever doubt that God will do what He says He will do?
  • Do we ever pray, wondering if God will hear and answer our prayers?

The only answers:  Yes & Yes; nevertheless, even in our doubt, our Father still—

  • Does what only He can do, continually doing what He tells us in His Word that He will do!
  • Does what He promises He will do, continually hearing and answering our prayers, just as He promises within His Holy Word!

“Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
Jesus said to him,

[Jesus spoke directly to Philip]
“Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip?
He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me?
The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative,

but the Father abiding in Me does His works.
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me;
otherwise believe because of the works themselves.
Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.
Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

(The Gospel According to John 14: 8-15 NASB)
  • Today, I wonder:  What are we asking, what prayers are we lifting in Jesus’ name?

Yes, I wonder:  Do we believe when Jesus tells us—“I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; . . .” ?

Do we really “believe because of the works themselves.” ?

  • Today, I find myself wondering:  Do I really believe that what I pray in Jesus’ name will be answered—OR—Do I deep-down allow Satan to place doubt and fear inside my mind and heart?
  • Today, I also find myself wondering:  Do I really believe the works that Jesus did in the Father’s name, so that the world could clearly see the Father and so that the Father would be glorified—OR—Do I allow the devil to cloud my spiritual eyes and place blinders on my heart where only faith in Jesus should be?

I thought long about these two questions, and dug deep, allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth.

  1. When I prayed for a child, God answered and blessed me twice!
  2. When I prayed for clarity to know exactly what to do, God answered and led me in the way He would have me go!
  3. When I prayed for strength to endure struggles within my marriage, God answered and led a godly woman into my path who shared a daily, dinnertime prayer devotion that brought healing to our marriage!
  4. When I prayed for discernment in changing careers, God answered and revealed me twelve reasons why He was in this step of faith!
  5. When I pray, whenever I ask in Jesus’ name, always, the Lord has been faithful.  ALWAYS!

TIME AFTER TIME.

DAY AFTER DAY.

SEASON AFTER SEASON.

YEAR AFTER YEAR.

  • Faithfully, God’s seal of salvation, His Holy Spirit has sustained me to see the way God answers my prayers.
  • Faithfully, God moves throughout my life, through my situations, through my struggles, reminding me through His works—helping me remember & believe.

Whenever, Wherever, Whatever!

However He sees fit & Within His timing!

God answers our prayers!

So, I have come to wonder:  With all this PROOF—How can we ever doubt Jesus and what He says within God’s Word?

“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

(The Gospel According to John 14: 13-15 NASB)

Let us pray.

Let us ask in prayer & believe.

Let us bow in prayer & trust.

Let us surrender our will and love the Lord & His will as we should.

Let us love God and keep His commandments.

Let us!

If you have read this far & you still wonder why, then friend, let me remind you what Jesus tells us in the Bible

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.
Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

(The Gospel According to John 14: 12-13 NASB)

Our Father is moved by prayer!

So, why are we not on our knees, praying?

Our Father is glorified when we ask in Jesus’ name & follow His commandments!

So, why are we not on our knees, praying?

Jesus Himself promised He would be in our midst when we pray, even reminding us how there is power when two gather together to pray!

So, why are we not inviting our Christian sisters and brothers to join us in praying?

  • God does what only He can do, continually doing what He tells us in His Word that He will do!
  • God does what He promises He will do, continually hearing and answering our prayers, just as He promises within His Holy Word!

Yes, Truly, with all this PROOF—How can we ever doubt Jesus and the words He speaks within God’s Word?

  • Let us seek spiritual partners who will faithfully join us in lifting our prayer requests.
  • Let us not doubt any longer, but only BELIEVE & TRUST GOD AT HIS WORD!

“Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask,
it shall be done for them by My Father who is heaven.
For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”

(The Gospel According to Matthew 18: 19-20 NASB)
