Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

HE Knows—Who You Are

In the summer of 2016, my husband and I traveled out west with our daughter and her best friend, a (sort of) high school graduation gift of travel.  We flew to a city out west, rented a vehicle at the airport, and then drove with the western skyline in our face, angling slightly north as we went.  There were many sights we desired to see, to visit, so we drove from site-to-site.  Looking back on our journey, if we had driven due west from our home, traveling via I-40 W, then after thirty hours of driving and 2,061.7 miles, we would have reached Death Valley National Park.

Yes, Google helped me with that data.

In the Bible, the Holy Spirit breathes out these words through the psalmist and shepherd David—

“As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our
transgressions from us.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those
who fear Him.
For He Himself knows our frame;
He is mindful that we are but dust.”

(The Psalms 103: 12-14 NASB)

Death Valley National Park.

Just the name of the national park gives a person a sense of what he will see when he enters the park.  Although we chose not to travel directly toward this destination but saw other sites along the way, still, we were not disappointed when we reached Death Valley, the lowest point in the United States.  I remember how utterly ‘brown’ the valley was as we drove, and even though our air conditioner was funneling out cold air, the temperature in the vehicle continued to rise.

Rocks, Sand, Shanties, Extreme Dryness & a solitary Highway snaking through the desert.

Those four things are all that I see whenever I return to my photos or go back in my memory of this journey.  Nothing green was seen, nothing alive but for the sales associates when we stopped the car to step outside into the arid temperature.

I remember that moment well; the heat took away our breath.  As we walked from the car to an ‘overlook’ place, it felt as if a weight were being placed on our chests.  Our stride became smaller as we walked the feet to see into the world of ‘nothingness.’  I also vividly remember how dry my mouth became with an un-seemingly unquenchable thirst.

Truly, Death Valley felt like hell on earth.

Needless to say, we stayed at the ‘overlook’ mere minutes before making our slow way into the general souvenir shop where we were able to buy and drink a cool drink of water.  To say the water trickling down my throat felt so good is surely a huge understatement!

“As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our
transgressions from us.”

(The Psalms 103: 12 NASB)

IS THIS NOT JUST LIKE OUR HEAVENLY FATHER!

Not only does He save us from a future doomed to hell, taking away our eternal death & separation from Him, but God gives us an eternal resting place with Him, and He seals His Promise by placing His Holy Spirit within us.  God totally removes our sins!  &  Our Father remembers our sins no more!—“As far as the east is to the west.”

  • Why would our Creator do this for us when we come to believe in and to accept His Son Jesus as our Savior?
  • Why would our Redeemer do this for us when we confess our sins to Jesus?

The Word of God faithfully tells us why—HE Knows—Who You Are

“Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those
who fear Him.
For He Himself knows our frame;
He is mindful that we are but dust.”

(The Psalms 103: 13-14 NASB)

Our Father—

He Knows Who We Are—

He Knows—

  1. The person “we think” we are.
  2. The person “the world says” we are.
  3. The person “God knows” we are & can become through His Only Son Jesus Christ.

This knowing all begins with the LORD’s compassion He displays on those who are in AWE of HIM, who are in REVERENCE TO HIM, who acknowledge just exactly WHO HE IS IN HIS SOVEREIGNTY!

The great evangelist Billy Graham preached many sermons about the love of God, about the sinfulness of mankind, and about the innate desire for man to know God.  Graham spoke of an internal “God-shaped hole” that exists inside every person born.  This place inside us is fashioned by God Himself when He created and placed us in our mother’s womb.  Only God can fill this “God-shaped hole,” even though we may spend days, months, and years attempting to fill this hole with all types of manmade items.  Our attempt is truly in vain, for only GOD HIMSELF has the AUTHORITY & POWER to fill us and establish WHO WE ARE THROUGH HIS ONLY SON JESUS!

Won’t you receive the long drink of His Living Water & Live!

The Word of God faithfully tells us why—HE Knows—Who You Are

“For He has satisfied the thirsty soul,
And
the hungry soul He has filled
with what is good.”

(The Psalms 107: 9 NASB)
