Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Words Spoken in Truth

What would we write to someone who would never read it?

  • Would we write words of love—if we loved the other dearly?
  • Would we write hateful words—sentiments we just needed to unload from our heart?
  • Would we lie or tell the truth in our writing?
  • Would we after writing send it or burn it?
  • How would we feel knowing another has read our words of love, of despair, or hate, or of complaint?

Yes, I really wonder:  If we only spoke to others through “written” words, would we speak TRUTH or just LIES?

The prophet Isaiah spoke for God both verbally and in written form.  In the book of Isaiah, we read these words:

“The Lord GOD has given Me
     the tongue of disciples,
So that I may know how to sustain
the weary one with a word.
He awakens Me morning
     by morning,
He awakens My ear to
     listen as a disciple.”

(Isaiah 50: 4 NASB)

This week, my daughter participates in De 4Daagse/The Walk of the World in Nijmegan, The Netherlands.  Along with a family friend, these two women have taken upon themselves the strenuous task of walking 160 kilometers in a span of Tuesday to Friday (hence the four days). That’s the equivalent of 25 miles a day!

On day 4, Karine & Sydney were required to walk even further to finish—an extra 5 kilometers in De 4Daagse/The Walk of the World.  So, in total, 165 kilometers in a span of 4 days!

  • Day 1, they walked their 40 kilometers in nine hours.
  • Day 2, they walked their 40 more kilometers in nine and one-half hours.  At the end of that walk, Sydney had one ugly blister to doctor.
  • Yesterday on Day 3, they walked the next 40 kilometers in ten hours and five minutes.  During the walk, when Marieke and I stopped them for nourishment and drink, Sydney was spent & Karine was tired.  At the end of the third kilometers on Day 3, Karine was fatigued, and Sydney and I waited four hours (until after 9pm) to see the medic because her ugly blister had manifested into a blood blister.  Before bed, Sydney wrote:  “Mom, will you please pray?”
  • Today is Day 4.  To receive the medallion, they must complete the last 40 kilometers.  As we dropped them off this morning, the blister was back.  Tenderly, Sydney walked toward the start line.  Slowly, Karine walked beside her.

Can they finish?

Will their feet endure to the end?

Will the blisters that formed become more blood blisters?

Will they walk the last 40 kilometers, pass through the green finish line, and receive their medallion?

All good questions, ones that cannot be answered just one hour and forty-two minutes into today’s walk.

What I can answer is this question—What words will you speak to these two ladies as Marieke and you take nourishment and drink to them early this morning?  The answer—Exactly what Isaiah wrote in his words to Israel.

“The Lord GOD has given Me
     the tongue of disciples,
So that I may know how to sustain
the weary one with a word.
He awakens Me morning
     by morning,
He awakens My ear to
     listen as a disciple.”

(Isaiah 50: 4 NASB)
  • I will speak with a tongue of a disciple because I am a disciple of Christ.
  • I will speak with the weary ones a word of encouragement.
  • I will speak this morning the words of the Holy Spirit as He speaks to my being.

He will awaken me as His disciple so that I may speak the words of grace and truth over these two beautiful, courageous ladies.
