A walk through life toward eternity

TRUTH: As Displayed Through Childlike Teaching

I love Taylor.
I love the husband God has led her to marry–James.
Together, God has created beauty. Two children.  Today, their first child permeates my thoughts.   Clementine. (aka Jerrilynn Grace as the rest of the world knows her).
Then God gave them a second bundle–Baby Jay, a little guy who already displays the great things God will lead him to accomplish.
Today, though, Clementine permeates my mind. Maybe it’s her infectious smile, her little girl giggle, her playfulness that comes with being a preschooler.  Maybe it’s because when I think of God’s love, immediately Clementine comes to my mind.
CarCar & RyRy (Aunt Carley & Uncle Ryan) would agree.
Uncle Darrell too would agree.
All of us need direction and guidance.
I need direction and guidance.  Thank You God for Clementine who guided me that day, the day she became so tickled, the day she held her hand over her mouth and giggled as only a preschooler can giggle, the day we STILL giggle over (and another funny line for my tombstone).
We had gone to see James and Taylor (a wonderful gift) and Taylor had taken us to see their new church and their new home.  Then we went to the “happy restaurant” as Clementine calls it.
“I have to go to the restroom.  Clementine, will you go with me?”
We went with Clementine leading the way.
I did my business. Enough said.
Then came the funniest, most precious time of the trip.  Clementine led me to understanding.
A toddler in her complete understanding led me to see the error of my way and the truth.
Picture a typical restaurant restroom.
Picture an aunt and her great niece.
See the walk, the hip hop, the skip as we go to the back of the restaurant where the facilities are located.
See the two girls wash their hands and now begins the time of drying.
See the great aunt wave her hand under the hand dryer one time, twice, three times.  Over and over.
“This dryer must be broken,” I exclaimed to myself and aloud to my beautiful young niece.
At that moment, I clearly remember her face——Beautiful!!!
“YOU JUST HAVE TO PUSH THE BUTTON,” she exclaimed as she began to giggle.
Innocent.
Honest.
Direct.
Helpful.
Direct.
Real.
Not Judgmental.
Real.
Helpful.
Thank You, God for direction.
Thank You, God for Clementine.
Thank You, God for James and Taylor.
Thank You, God for Scott and Jill.
Thank You, God.
Thank You, for laughter, even laughter directed at ourselves.
“Aunt Nancy, you just have to push the button,” she exclaimed as her little body bent at the waist, as she covered her mouth & giggled, displaying the humor of the whole situation.
No waving required.
Nothing special.
Nothing fancy.
Just a simple button.
Just a simple direction given through the innocence of a child.
I dried my hands that evening.
I pushed the button.
I laughed.
I even shared this story with my family, and they too have enjoyed great laughter at my silly expense.
It is a truth that we adult humans complicate the simple truth.
Did you catch that?
We (the adults) complicate (terribly) the TRUTH!!!!
THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR SIMPLICITY FOUND IN ACCEPTANCE OF YOU!!!!

Clementine was a doer that evening as she showed me the only way possible to receive the drying cloth for my damp hands.
Thank You, Jesus, for SIMPLICITY.
Clementine directed me as she giggled in her hand at her funny aunt who waved and waved and waved her hands below the hand dryer when ALL that was necessary was a dime step, a simple button that must be pushed.
God’s Salvation is so simple that a small child can see the truth.
We adults complicate it.
We look for more.
We look for the fancy, the needed “extra” steps when the reality is God provides the simple way to Him.
Clementine’s simplistic direction reminds me of the Truth of God.  Don’t believe me but see with me the truth found in God’s Word.

“But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.”

(James 1: 22)

The Doers.
Those who believe and pray and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
The Doers.
I desire to be a Doer of God’s Word.
Thank You, God, for little Clementine who taught me this simple and profound truth!!!
Yes, this story has been retold over and over.
Yes, it’s another funny story to reveal the silly Aunt Nancy.
But that’s okay because I think my tombstone really needs another funny line to bring even more humor to anyone who stops by to read.
“Just push the button, Aunt Nancy.”
So simple, but so honest.
I stopped doing what I knew to do (wave my hands) and pushed the button (followed the simple direction).  The result.  I now have dry hands because IMMEDIATELY the towel was exposed.
I looked to little Clementine as she was overcome with her toddler giggles as she placed her hand over her mouth, bent at the waist, and giggled.
I too giggled at the silliness of my own action.
God’s Word is NOT silly or complicated.
But God’s Word is simple.
Believe—that God is God.
Accept—that Jesus Christ is the Only Way to receive God’s Salvation.
Confess our sins (those sins that immediately separate us from a most Holy God) &
Receive God’s forgiveness.
Simple.  Maybe too simple for the educated.
Stop thinking like an adult and follow the childlike way to God.
TRUTH.
GOD’S SALVATION.
GOD’S TRUTH.
When Darrell first believed, we met with our pastor each Sunday evening (just the three of us) and we studied God’s Word together.   Today, I end with our first memorized verses.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
So that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”

(2 Timothy 3: 16-17)

God knows the consequences of our sin.  Separation from Him forevermore.
God desired to deter us from the consequences, from our earthly choices so that we can see His Truth.
We follow God by taking the first step of belief, of truth, of obedience.
One Step.
Yes, as in life, one step leads to the next step. That’s FAITH.
The simplicity of God.
Won’t you Believe?
Accept, Believe, & Confess Him Lord today?!!!
