WHO IS GOD?
May we today begin with A Question—-Well (several questions) to be exact.
WHO IS GOD?
WHO do we wholeheartedly adore and worship with all our being?
WHO deserves our praise—Even when our today may prove to be the saddest day of our entire life?
WHO?
WHO IS ALMIGHTY GOD? & What can GOD not accomplish?
Let’s first establish that God has come to offer us a gift, one we can never earn, despite how “perfect” we try to live. Still, we will fail; still, we will sin (against God). Therefore, God offers us a free gift. Thus, every man, woman, and child must decide what to do with this gift.
We choose to follow GOD.
OR
We choose to not follow HIM.
As I sit this morning reading a variety of passages that answer the question—Who is God—The electricity shuts off, and I am surrounded in the pitch darkness.
As I sit here listening to a melody about how God makes me clean, the song suddenly ends, as the quietness fills the air.
No light. No sound. Alone, but if I am a child of GOD, am I ever alone in the dark, in the quiet?
As I sit in the pitch dark, I recall the words I have just read within God’s Word, and I remember the flashlight on my cell phone, a single light that illuminates the passages of the Bible, the Scriptures just read, the Word of God that provides ALL the Answers to ALL our questions.
WHO IS GOD?
The prophet Jeremiah wrote—
“But the LORD is the true God;
(Jeremiah 10: 10-13)
He is the living God and the everlasting King.
At His wrath the earth quakes,
And the nations cannot endure His indignation.”
Thus you shall say to them, “The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.”
“It is He who made the earth by His power,
Who established the world by His wisdom;
And by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.
When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens.
And He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth;
He makes lightning for the rain,
And brings out the wind from His storehouses.”
Then we read how Daniel—courageous, Hebrew boy, Daniel, & vision-revealing, child of God, Daniel wrote—
“Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven;
(Daniel 2:19-23)
Daniel said,
“Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever,
For wisdom and power belong to Him.
It is He who changes the times and the epochs;
He removes kings and establishes kings;
He gives wisdom to wise men
And knowledge to men of understanding.
It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things;
He knows what is in the darkness
And the light dwells with Him.
To You, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise,
For You have given me wisdom and power; . . .”
Then we read of the prophet Isaiah, what he wrote of God—
“The LORD is exalted, for He dwells on high;
(Isaiah 33: 5-6)
He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
And He will be the stability of your times,
A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge;
The fear of the LORD is his treasure.”
And David—shepherd boy to chosen, King David wrote—
“Good and upright is the LORD;
(Psalm 25: 8-10)
Therefore He instructs sinners in the way.
He leads the humble in justice,
And He teaches the humble His way.
All the paths of the LORD are lovingkindness and truth
To those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.”
GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD IS GOD! . . .
In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul describes what God did for us.
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions [our sins], made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
(Ephesians 2: 4-7)
And raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
So that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
We can remain in the dark, seeking the darkness found only through the devil and through this world.
OR
We can seek the goodness of God, the LIGHT of the World.
It will require time.
It will require energy.
But the rewards will be everlasting!!!
Finally, today, I share the words of King David, the one recorded in Scripture who was known as a man after God’s heart. David said it well—
“One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek:
(Psalm 27: 4-6)
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD
And to meditate in His temple.
For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.
And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,
And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.”
