Using Our Minutes Wisely
“In a minute!”—words I could not speak aloud to my earthly dad, especially if my tone (my attitude) was one of frustration.
“Sit there, for one full minute”—words spoken by our mother as she placed us in timeout when we were one year old.
“Write, for a full minute, not stopping, but continuing to write for one solid minute”—words an English teacher speaks to her students as they begin to pre-think a topic.
A Minute.
A popular saying (nowadays) goes something like this—“It’s been a minute,” and we typically use these words when we encounter someone we have not seen for quite a long time (far more time than a 60-second span of time).
A Minute.
Sixty Seconds.
It surely is NOT a great length of time. What can a person accomplish within the length of a minute? Not much, we may think, but let’s pause for an experiment.
Find a clock or pull up your stopwatch on your cell phone, set the timer or watch the second hand on the clock. Do not take your eyes off the timing instrument for a FULL MINUTE.
During a normal doctor’s office visit, the nurse takes our pulse—-for a full minute.
During a normal typical childish tantrum, we may have held our breath—-for a full minute.
During an evening with the man of our dreams, we may have stood on the front porch and kissed goodnight—-for a full minute.
YES, there is so much GOOD & BAD we can accomplish within the span of one full minute. Since our entire lives are built upon TIME, shouldn’t we make the most of our most precious commodity that God grants? !!!
Think for a minute—(yes, for a full 60-second minute). Think of the reasoning behind “WHY” we do what we do within our time we walk through a single day filled with decisions made—-minute-by-minute.
- Do we do what we do because we hope to impress others?
- Do we do what we do because we hope to earn the approval of others?
- Do we do what we do because of guilt?
- Do we do what we do because we are afraid not to do what we do?
- Do we do what we do because we fear what people will say?
- Do we do what we do—-filling our minutes—-for the right reasons?
Truth be told, probably not. We DO so much for the wrong motivation because we only have One single Reason & One Solitary Person to Please!!!
Do not believe me. Believe the Bible.
“As you know, we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much opposition.
(2 Thessalonians 2: 2-4)
For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit; but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts.”
Yes, you read correctly. We (believers) have been entrusted with the gospel of God, so we speak!!!!
As we speak the gospel as we go through our days and hours and minutes, we speak, not to please those we speak with, but we speak with boldness to please God—-the only approval we should ever seek to receive!!!
In a minute, we can do so much “good” in the world, and the most precious and wonderful gift we can give to another is the gift of the gospel of God. Yes, that’s right. In a minute, we can—
- Pray With Someone.
- Tell Another About the Salvation of God.
- Read a Bible Verse.
- Hug a Hurting Person.
- Share How Jesus Changed Our Heart.
- Lift Up A Prayer Request, Asking God to Intervene Within A Person’s Life.
- Send A Text Message of Encouragement.
- Lead A Person to Know the Salvation of God.
Again, do NOT believe me; believe the Word of God.
“For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.”
(Galatians 1:10)
Let us do whatever we do (Within All Our Minutes) for the right reason.
Let us only seek God’s approval.
We speak so much about finding balance and contentment here on earth, and truly, our time here (on earth) is so brief. In fact, many would say any time after 70 years of life is borrowed time.
70 years X 365 days per year=25,550 days.
1 day = 24 hours X 60 minutes per hour = 1,440 minutes.
Let us be mindful to spend—
Every single day,
Every solitary minute—living to please God—the Only Person we should ever strive to please.
Why?
Because we belong to Him.
Because Christ Jesus died for our redemption.
Because another’s soul might just very well depend upon whether or not we use our next minute to share our personal testimony.
Let Us…..Share Jesus Every Minute of Every Day As We Do for Others & As We Boldly Witness with others of the most precious topic of all—the Salvation of God.
