Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

There’s Really No Such Thing

A CHANCE MEETING.

There really is no such a thing as a “chance meeting” with other individuals.

When we encounter another throughout our day, there really are not happenstance but divine appointments.

I met a man, one who was a retired instructor, one who had been out of the classroom for the last four years.  He was there to teach one class—the class I could not teach due to the lack of space in my schedule.  So, instead, there Collin sat at the end of the table.  Collin, a man I did not know but still a man who seemed most familiar.  A Chance Meeting?  Of course not!!!

What I noticed most was that he was a twin in personal characteristics to a man I knew most of my career.  Collin was truly Richard’s twin in character, and there we sat (again, it seemed) side-by-side.

I met an eye-associate the other day, one who shared with me certain characteristics she possessed.  As we chatted together about her high school career, she said,  “I knew you, but never had you as my teacher.”  We discussed her family, and it became clear I did not teach this young lady before she graduated in 2000, but I did teach her son years later.  During our conversation, I noticed she reminded me of someone, and then when she mentioned her son, I knew this meeting, this appointment with this particular eye-associate was not by chance.   “His name is Jason,” she said.  A Chance Meeting?  Of course not!!!

What I noticed most was that Jason, a boy I knew well as a student, was (in a way) present with me that day, and as I realized how similar she was to her son, how they shared similar characteristics, we sat side-by-side.

I met a lady that same day, in the waiting room, a retired teacher.  She did not recognize me, even though I knew her the moment she walked through the door.  She looked the same.  She walked the same.  She carried herself…the same.  We did not talk that day, but I knew it was NOT A Chance Meeting as she chose her seat right beside me.  Years earlier, she decided to leave the classroom to care for her child, and when she did, I began my career.  A Chance Meeting?  Of course not!!!  She and I shared something much deeper than our career of teaching—-We shared the same students (those students who were once her students became my students that school year).

What I noticed most as my name was called, was that Pam was there, present, right beside me (as we waited).  Then, my name was called as I prepared to leave, as she was arriving, and (again—-just as thirty years ago) one of us took our departure and one arrived.

CHANCE MEETINGS.

There is no such a thing as a “chance meeting” with other individuals. Truly. When we encounter another throughout our day, there really are not happenstance but divine appointments.

I do not know you, nor you me, and we do not know one another’s situations; yet, here we are—together.  As I write these words, today, my mind fills with wonder at those who might read these words someday, and some may call it a Chance Meeting, but we will know the truth indeed.

The Bible speaks of this, of God’s great resources He provides, how He sustains, heals, saves, and leads.  One day, years ago, God gave me the gift of His Son.  Certainly, that was NOT A CHANCE MEETING, but a DIVINE APPOINTMENT.  God gave me so much when He gave me Jesus, and hopefully you lay claim to the same gift today, and so here we sit (almost as if side-by-side) with you there and me here, but still connected through Jesus and His shed blood, His redemption covering our sins.

“Indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us,  He on whom we have set our hope.   And He will yet deliver us, you also joining in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many.”

(2 Corinthians 1: 9-11)
  • PRAYER for others.
  • BIBLE STUDY with others.
  • SERVING others.
  • CARING for their needs.
  • SHARING life together, even separated by a generation of years; yet, still there side-by-side.

Do we thank God for His Divine Appointments?

Do we truly rely on God for all our needs?

Do we ask God to join us as we go throughout our day?

Let us ask Him for guidance, for wisdom, for direction.  He will show us the path we are to take.  He gave us the gift of His Son; certainly, He will give us all that we will need as we pray to Him and ask.

David chose five smooth stones.  He made a practical step toward his goal.  David knew he had been victorious as he had faced other adversaries, so why should he worry as he faced Goliath, the giant, that day.  A Chance Meeting?  Of course not!!! That was truly…

God’s Divine Appointment!!!

Jesus said, “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you;  seek, and you will find;  knock, and it will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.”

(Luke 11: 9-10)

God is Here.  God is Everywhere.  His Divine Appointment—with Us.

Pray. Ask. Seek. Knock.

May we cry out to God today.

Will it be….A Chance Meeting?  Of course not!!!
