Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

You Must Make a Decision

Isn’t it odd how people can hear the wildest rumors and believe them?  &

Isn’t it interesting how Jesus can tell the absolute truth, and people struggle to believe Him?

We open our Bible, turning to the first book Genesis, and we read about Abraham, a man who lived generations prior to the birth of Jesus.

Did Abraham ever see Jesus Christ?

Skeptics proclaim:  “There’s no way,” but Believers in Jesus state with unfaltering faith:  “Yes, he certainly DID see Jesus.  Each time God was present with the people, Jesus was present there too.  When Abraham died, his body was buried, but since he was a believer, Abraham was not really dead, but in the presence of God.

To the unbelieving person, this truth is difficult to comprehend, but to the faith-filled believer, this fact resonates as TRUTH.

Jesus was a great teacher; however, Jesus is so much more.  He is the Savior of the world.

Jesus was a son of Joseph and Mary; nevertheless, Jesus is the Son of God.

Jesus was the Son of man; furthermore, Jesus is God in the flesh, the Great I AM.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death.”
“The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon.
Abraham died, and the prophets also; and You say,
‘If anyone keeps My word, he will never taste death.’
Surely You are not greater than our father Abraham who died?
The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be?”

(The Gospel According to John 8: 51-53 NASB)

When Jesus spoke to the Jews, He caused quite a stir, and they reacted, deciding that He was of the devil, a demon in fact.  As we read this passage, maybe we find ourselves wishing we could have been present that day in that crowd.  The Jews hated Jesus so much, and continually, they sought ways to kill Him.  They want to see Jesus dead, and Jesus wants only to give them eternal life.  What a contrast.

Today, the same debate continues.  Each day, we encounter individuals who struggle to believe, who have decided that they don’t believe, and who even try to stand in the middle ground between believe and unbelief.

The issue is Jesus Christ.

Either HE is the Truth—OR—He is speaking a complete untruth.

Either HE Is Exactly Who He Says He Is—OR—HE is a Liar.

Either HE is God in the flesh and the Savior of the world—OR—He is not.

Either you accept Him—OR—You decide to not believe.

Either way—You much decide.

There is no gray, middle ground.

Nevertheless, whatever a person decides does not change the TRUTH OF WHO JESUS IS, but a person’s decision totally changes who he is as a person, for an individual cannot encounter and accept the living God and remain unchanged.

In response to the Jews’ claim that Jesus was of the devil, the Son of God replied,

“Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’,
and you have not come to know Him, but I know Him;
and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you,
but I do know Him and keep His word.
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”

(The Gospel According to John 8: 54-56 NASB)

At this, the Jews were most perplexed for they saw how Jesus was not very old, so what Jesus claimed about having seen Abraham seemed impossible to believe.  If fact, they became so angry at Jesus’ words that the Bible records how they took up stones to kill Jesus.

If you were to study the great dictators of the world, it would be easy to discover the many lies they spoke.  In fact, it is said that Adolf Hitler said that if a lie is repeated over and over long enough, the people will actually begin to believe the lie.  In our modern-day world, many lies are being spoken, and often from the height of the tallest platforms.

Jesus laid His very life down when He gave His life on the cross for our sin-debt.

Either we believe it to be true—OR—We do not.

Isn’t it interesting how Jesus can tell the absolute truth, and people struggle to believe Him?

Jesus said these words to Martha—

“Jesus said to her,
“I am the resurrection and the life;
he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.
Do you believe this?”

(The Gospel According to John 11: 25-26 NASB)
