Recollection & Remembrance
“Bless the LORD, O my soul,
(The Psalms 103: 1-2 NASB)
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits.”
Have you ever attempted to remember that which you once knew but have now forgotten? A person’s name? Certain calendar dates? Maybe even details you have used numerous times?
If you were to look at my phone calendar, then you would encounter a significant amount of color-coding, reminders for all the items I do not wish to forget. Red is used for birthday reminders, and next to the birthday name, you find a set of parentheses with a year listed (the year of the person’s birth) because that takes all the pressure off my shoulders as I strive year-after-year to recall a person’s age. Immediately (after a bit of math), I can recall the person’s birthday and the age just by glancing at my phone calendar. If you see Purple, then you would be reminded of the past memories, of those journeys taken long ago. Green denotes the Dutch lesson that I want to remember each day. Yellow reminds me of upcoming appointments. The color maroon reminds me of details school related.
Colors make remembering easier, and the items recorded on the calendar help me recall and accomplish that which needs to be done.
With all these reminders, it makes me wonder:
- What color belongs to the LORD? &
- What color belongs to the prayers we need to pray? &
- Which color would we give to the reminders of the LORD’S answered prayers? &
- Which color would we affix to our remembrance of the LORD’S many blessings?
Oh, LORD, help us to “forget none of His benefits.” & Remind us daily to “bless His holy name.”
The psalmist reminds us what should be our daily recollection.
“I shall remember the deeds of the LORD,
(The Psalms 77: 11-12 NASB)
Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.
I will meditate on all Your work
And muse on Your deeds.”
Today, we remember the LORD’s faithfulness as we recall how our life-road remains steady because we choose daily to walk with Him. We claim our spiritual inheritance through Christ Jesus, realizing that it causes there to be a distinct difference in the way we are to live our earthly lives. We remember how we are to daily pause to praise the Savior, who daily blesses our lives through an intimate relationship, and we remember how we are to strive to never become complacent nor “forget none of His benefits,” for one day, the LORD will come for us and bring us home to dwell eternally within His presence.
