WHO Has Control over You?
If you have gained a few years, then maybe you have said these words: “I am the boss of me,” and quite possibly, you have taken action, proving that statement to be true. We seem to believe that a certain age of life brings a person to become boss over himself, and in fact, it does. For example:
***A person can (at 18) choose to commit a crime and be arrested and tried as an adult.
***An individual can (at 16) obtain a driver’s license granting him the freedom to go and come as he wishes in a vehicle.
***A young person can (at 18) register to vote, and if male, register for the selective service, a law for all boys.
***A young adult can (at 21) buy drinks for his friends, buy cigarettes, and can be totally free of parental control (even at 18).
***A person who finds herself pregnant (at any age) can obtain the abortion pill, deciding that the life inside her is of no value.
***An elderly one, a mentally-anguished one, or any person really (as an adult) can travel to certain states and particular countries to participate in assisted death, in euthanasia, ending his life here on earth.
Yes, certain ages of life bring a person to believe he can be boss over himself, but if we read God’s Word, we see:
WHO really has control, WHO really is the boss over mankind.
We read the Truth.
“But our God is in the heavens;
(The Psalms 115: 3 NASB)
He does whatever He pleases.”
As one who believes in the work of Jesus on the cross and in the grave; & as one who has accepted the Truth, that Jesus really is Who He says He is; & as one who has confessed his sins and given his heart to Jesus Christ—then we have gained freedom—giving our whole selves to Christ, recognizing & allowing for—God’s place as our BOSS.
The Bible records how believers, how Christ-followers, how Christians have become “overcomers” because of the daily sacrifice of our self-will to lay down our “want-to” in order to do, to go, to speak, and to be whatever GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT LEADS US:
***To go or To stay.
***To be or To refrain from being as a person.
***To speak or To not speak. &
***To do or To be led to not do.
See the words of Jesus Christ, the Savior and KING—
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
(The Revelation to John 2: 17 NASB)
To him who overcomes,
to him I will give some of the hidden manna,
and I will give him a white stone,
and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.”
Recently, I heard a man speak of his life, of growing up with a hard-working dad, one who worked six months away from home. He told how his dad married several times, primarily due to the fact that it’s extremely difficult to sustain a healthy marriage when one half of the married couple is away from home. So, the man spoke of the various step-mothers who came and went. As a young man, the family did not attend church, not because they were angry at God but for the simple reason that they found no need or value in attending. Then the world changed when this man (who was once a boy of nine) was invited to Vacation Bible School where he heard the Gospel, first on a Wednesday night and then again on a Friday night, and at the tender age of nine, HE BECAME AN OVERCOMER WHEN HE GAVE HIS HEART TO JESUS.
A simple decision:
***To recognize his sinful nature,
***To see the truth of Jesus Christ, &
***To receive Jesus as his Savior and Lord—Changed Everything.
As adults, we know with certainty how this boy’s dad, his step-moms, and his school teachers were the ‘boss of him.’ However, his current life, his future days, his adulthood, his elderly days to come, and his eternity suddenly CHANGED when he became a believer. For the first time, the Lord Jesus Christ, God Incarnate (God in the flesh), & God’s Holy Spirit profoundly altered this nine-year-old boy’s life-decisions, life-plans, and life-goals.
On that day, this young boy became an Overcomer, when he gave his heart to Jesus and became a bond-servant to Almighty God.
As I sat listening to this man’s commencement speech, the realization washed over me, answering the question that all seek to answer.
WHO Has Control over You?
***The Right Answer to the Question (whether you are a believer or not)—
***The Right Answer to the Question (whether you are a child, teen, young adult, or a person of age)—
***The Right Answer to the Question—
GOD DOES!
“But our God is in the heavens;
(The Psalms 115: 3 NASB)
He does whatever He pleases.”
