Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Humans Have Always Been the Same

There are several images that stand out from my childhood:

  • The rope tied to the back porch steps as dad disappeared into the snowstorm, holding onto the rope as he walked.
  • The three brand new bikes hidden from view on the side of the house as dad led the three oldest children around the corner to see.
  • The tables set up near the basement steps, our business counter and rainy-day play space.
  • The mound of dry manure piled behind the tool shed, a mountain to climb to a child of nine.
  • The sand box adjacent to the unattached garage, filled with cool-to-touch sand where endless hours of play ensued.

Images and memories permeate my mind from my childhood; nevertheless, there remains another image I also recall.  During the 1970s, automobiles were built with back windows, a place that was designed to hold precious items.

  • Men’s ballcaps sat there until needed.
  • Tissue boxes sat there ready to be used.
  • Umbrellas lay across the space. &

Oftentimes, another object lay there from Sunday to Sunday—unused.

  • As a child, I clearly remember observing how some adults laid their Bibles in their back car windows, reachable when they arrived at church each Sunday.
  • As an adult, I clearly see the error of this action, leaving one’s copy of God’s Word untouched all week.

Back in the day (the 1970s), the Internet did not exist, nor cell phones, so people were not carrying a way to access the Word of God in their back pockets, downloaded to their cell phones.

The only way to read the Bible was to READ THE BIBLE.

However, it was apparent that some were not carrying their copy of God’s Word into their homes, for back car windows were filled with Bibles (sometimes four or five).

In the centermost part of God’s Word, we find these words of the psalmist—

“You [LORD] are my hiding place and my shield;
I wait for Your word.”

(The Psalms 119: 114 NAS)

Humans Have Always Been the Same & God Has Always Been Our Hiding Place.

The apostle Paul was led by the Spirit to write—

“For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren,
that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea;
and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
and all ate the same spiritual food;
and all drank the same spiritual drink,
for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them;
and
the rock was Christ.

Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased;
for they were laid low in the wilderness.
Now these things happened as examples for us,
so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved.”

(The First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians 10: 1-6 NAS)
  • Did we catch what Paul was preaching?
  • Do we see the point found within this passage?
  • Do we understand what the LORD wants us to see?

WE MUST BE READING THE WORD OF GOD!

As followers of Jesus Christ, we must be searching out the Scriptures, seeking to garner all that we can learn, seeing the examples the Father provides—striving to fully walk with our Savior.

We have been saved by God’s grace through faith in God’s Word & cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.  God’s grace truly is sufficient for you and me.

Therefore, we must be daily searching for His teachings, growing in our faith, as we mine out these precious truths within the pages of His Word.

LORD—

“You are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Your word.” (The Psalms 119: 114 NAS)

HIS WORD—

  • Trustworthy!
  • True!
  • Our Rock of Defense!
  • Our Hiding Place!
  • The Sword of the Spirit!
  • His Promises to Rest Upon Every Day!

“Now these things happened to them as an example,
and they were written for our instruction,
upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed
that he does not fall.”

(The First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians 10: 11-12 NAS)

For we humans will fall from grace; we will be prone to sin when not seeking the LORD with our whole being.  Maybe, you ask:  How can you say this?

  • The Bible proves it so, from the beginning of time found in the narrative of the first Adam.
  • He fell from grace and in his shame, hid himself from the LORD.

Humans Have Always Been the Same, and so it is 100% true—

We need the Word of God every day of our life!
