He waited until she needed it most
- It’s really difficult to imagine her pain, but GOD knows the beginning to the end.
- It’s quite unimaginable to understand, but GOD knew the first man, the first Adam, would sin (fall).
GOD knew mankind would rebel &
So GOD purposed from the beginning to send Jesus.
HIS ONLY SON.
Surely, Mary’s (the mother of Jesus) heart must have throbbed that historical day, as she stood at the foot of the cross and watched her son, the Son of God, suffer and then die.
- The One she loved had been crucified.
- The One she cradled in her arms willingly died. &
- Mary, the young woman who had been selected to be the mother of Jesus stood weeping at the foot of the cross.
Mary was human, just as any other mother.
- She loved her child, had worried about Him, supported Him, cared for & nursed Him when He was a babe.
- For sure, she remembered the day years ago when the angel spoke to her about the way the Holy Spirit would conceive a child inside her womb.
Mary had, like all godly mothers, prayed for her son, the Son of God.
Mary loved Jesus.
- As she stood at the foot of the cross, she may have recalled the angel’s words who had prophesied of the death of Jesus, even before Jesus’ birth.
“The angel answered and said to her,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
(The Gospel According to Luke 1:35 NAS)
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;
and for that reason
the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.”
For more than thirty years, Mary had served as the earthly mother of the Messiah, &
Now she found herself hurting, as she watched her precious son bleed and be crucified on Calvary’s cross.
Today, on Mother’s Day, go with me in remembrance to that day thousands of years ago.
- See Golgotha’s Hill outside Jerusalem.
- Ponder the scene of the three crosses, and really visualize the One on the middle cross.
- Hear the words of the Savior, as He cared for His mother, loved her, and took care of her.
Even as He prepared to die for the sins of mankind.
“Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus,
(The Gospel According to John 19: 23a & 25-27 NAS)
. . .
Therefore the soldiers did these things.
[prophecy was fulfilled as they cast lots &
as the soldiers divided Jesus’ garments among themselves]
But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother,
and His mother’s sister,
Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby,
He said to His mother,
“Woman, behold, your son!”
Then He said to the disciple,
“Behold, your mother!”
From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.”
Jesus knew that day was coming, & Jesus could have taken care of this matter privately, making arrangements with His disciple John.
However, the Savior displayed His perfect timing.
Jesus waited until she needed it most.
Jesus loved His earthly mother.
Jesus loves us!
- Jesus loves His church.
- Jesus loves the children of God.
- Jesus offers peace where only grief exists.
Jesus loves us!
- Jesus demonstrated His love for Mary that day as she stood below the cross.
- Jesus demonstrated His love that day of His crucifixion, while suffering on the cross.
