“Whatever He says to you, do it.”
- How does your neighbor know you are a Believer?
- How can your colleague see you are a Christian?
- How can your friends and family see evidence that you are a follower of Christ?
In the Bible, we are given few opportunities to see the thoughts, words, and actions of Jesus’ mother. Therefore, in the passages we are given, we clearly understand Mary’s deep faith in her salvation in her belief in Jesus, the Son of God, who came to earth as the Son of man. In these glimpses of Mary’s faith—
- We see Mary’s faith in Jesus, the Son of God. &
- We see how Mary’s faith in Jesus, her Savior, affected her daily walk.
“On the third day [of Jesus’ public ministry]
(The Gospel According to John 2: 1-5 NASB)
there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee,
and the mother of Jesus was there;
[meaning Mary, Jesus’ mother was present at this wedding]
and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran out,
the mother of Jesus said to Him,
“They have no wine.”
And Jesus said to her,
“Woman, what does that have to do with us?
My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servants,
“Whatever He says to you, do it.”
Consider this TRUTH—
- Jesus Christ, the eternal, glorified, holy Son of God—set aside His incarnate glory to be born the Son of man.
- Jesus the Christ and the Son of God—set aside his glorified body to be born into a likeness of sinful man.
- Christ Jesus came to live, to serve, to die—so that you and I (all mankind) might be given eternal life by believing on His name.
- Christ, who came as the Son of man—lived as the Son of God and died, giving His life on Calvary’s cross—while we were still sinners.
“For while we were still helpless,
(The Letter of Paul to the Romans 5: 6 & 8 NASB)
at the right time
Christ died for the ungodly.
. . .
But God demonstrated His own love toward us,
in that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us.”
Mary knew Jesus was the Messiah, the Christ, sent by God to bring salvation to the world. She knew for the angel of God told her so. Then her “knowing it so” had to be manifested into her “believing it so” & into her “doing it so.”
His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” (The Gospel According to John 2: 5 NASB)
Mary was not perfect, just because she birthed the Son of God. Nowhere in the Bible does it proclaim she was, but the Bible does proclaim how she believed on Him, her Son of man, who was the Son of God.
She saw firsthand the visible image of the invisible God when she held the baby Jesus in her arms.
She saw firsthand the glory of God magnified through Jesus as He lived His earthly life.
- Mary was just like us (at first), a person of doubt, when the angel of God came to her.
- Mary was just like us, a sinner in need of the salvation of God through His Son, Jesus Christ.
- Mary was not more special, more gifted, more intuitive, or more angelic than anyone else.
- BUT Mary, the mother of Jesus, who was called by God—OBEYED GOD’S calling on her life.
Our choices, our thoughts, our words, our actions—reflect our priorities.
Our daily walk—demonstrates if we are a follower of Jesus—OR—if we are not.
- How do our neighbors know we are Believers in Jesus?
- How can our colleagues see we are Christians?
- How can our friends and family see evidence that we are followers of Jesus Christ?
It is only through complete obedience to HIM that the world surrounding us will see in WHOM we Believe. &
It is by our compelling witness for JESUS that the world will come to know our Savior Jesus.
It is through the Bible, the Word of God, we see How.
His mother said to the servants,
(The Gospel According to John 2: 5 NASB)
“Whatever He says to you,
do it.”
