Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

One Author & One Message of Truth & Songs of Praise to Sing

“Now when Pharaoh had let the people go,
God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines,
even though it was near;
for God said,
“The people might change their minds when they see war,
and return to Egypt.”

Hence God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea;
and the sons of Israel went up in martial array from the land of Egypt.”

(Exodus 13: 17-18 NASB)

When God sent the tenth plague, the plague of death, there was great anguish across the land of Egypt.  From the dungeon, to the stable, & from the poorest house to Pharaoh’s home, every firstborn had died.  This was the work of God through the Death Angel the LORD sent in His judgment of Pharaoh’s treatment of the Israelites.

The sons of Israel knew no other home than Egypt, for they had lived as slaves in that land for 430 years.  They were brick-makers, living in bondage to the god-like tyrant named Pharaoh.

  • They did not know how to do battle, but God did.
  • They did not know how to fight; but God did.
  • They did not even know martial formation, so God led them.
  • They did not know if they would reach freedom, but God knew—and at that moment, they believed HIM.

Thus, once they saw the Egyptians hurled into the sea & the approaching Egyptian army swept up in the Red Sea & the great Pharaoh defeated—the sons of Israel did the most natural thing they knew to do.

They sang to the LORD.

“Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD,
and said,
I will sing to the LORD,
for He is highly exalted;

The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.

The LORD is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
This is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father’s God, and I will extol Him.
The LORD is a warrior;
The LORD is His name.”

. . .
“Miriam [the sister of Moses & Aaron] answered them,
“Sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted;
 The horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea”

(Exodus 15: 1-3 & 21 NASB)

There are so many battles we are called to fight; battles we could never face alone.  Consider:

  • A child who leaves the truth about God, that teaching which he learned as he grew up in a godly home.
  • A fight again and again with cancer that just won’t seem to go away.
  • A wounded heart caused by someone who crushes a person’s spirit.
  • A spouse who seems to suddenly fall out of love with someone, even though they vowed to love one another until death.
  • A child who just does not seem to believe in God.
  • A child who seems plagued with anger and unrest.
  • A child who we stand and watch as they go down the wrong life-path.
  • The loss of a job we have become dependent upon for our needs.
  • The loss of a friendship that we never thought could end.
  • The loss of our possessions taken in a fiery-flame.
  • The sickness that plagues our body, time-after-time.

We cry out—“Oh God, when will it ever end?”

All battles must be fought in one mighty way—in the strength of the LORD.  Never should a believer stop praying, for the Father hears every single word His children pray.   &  Never should God’s child ever stop believing, for the LORD will always reign!

Thus, once we fall onto our knees & once we begin to place our eyes on the LORD instead of our battle & once we see the way the LORD strengthens us—just as He promises, then the children of God will do the most natural thing they know to do.

We sing to the LORD.

The apostle Paul reminds us of this truth, reminding of certain characteristics found in the ONE we believe in and follow & are to praise through our songs—

“Now to the King eternal,
immortal,
invisible,
the only God,
be honor and glory forever and ever.    Amen.”

(The 1st Letter of Paul to Timothy 1: 17 NASB)

This morning, as I ponder this truth:  There is only One Author & There is only One Message of Truth, a melody plays into my earbuds, the song “Rejoice,” as if right on cue.

  • May we never fear & May we never return to our Egypt.
  • May we always believe & May we always lift our hands and sing.

“There’s a better day coming.

There’s a better day coming.

There’s a better day coming.

And again I say, ‘Rejoice.’ ”

“Rejoice” by Andrew Ripp,

  • In the Bible, the song of Moses and Aaron was the first song the children of Israel sang, when the LORD defeated Pharaoh and marched them into the Promised Land.
  • In the Bible, there is a last song, a final song, the children of God will sing, one that will be sung in heaven.

Truly, there is only One Author & One LORD & One Message of Truth & Songs of Praise We Must Sing!

“And they sang the song of Moses,
the bond-servant of God,
and the song of the Lamb,
saying,

“Great and marvelous are Your works,
O Lord God, the Almighty;
Righteous and true are Your ways,
King of the nations!
Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name?
For You alone are holy;
FOR ALL THE NATIONS WILL COME AND WORSHIP BEFORE YOU,
FOR YOUR RIGHTEOUS ACTS HAVE BEEN REVEALED.”

(The Revelation to John 15: 3-4 NASB)
