Behold, HE IS COMING!
Marriage brings two solitary individuals to a beautiful life experienced together. From the time two individuals begin to ‘talk’ and then to ‘date,’ a relationship begins to bud, taking shape.
When we were young (my husband and I) we began to sit beside one another on the school bus that carried us to the high school. This was also the bus I rode from my home because mom was my bus driver: from home to the elementary school and from there to the high school. So, each day, once we reached the place where the small children disembarked, that became the time when I began to get excited to see (at that time) my friend, the one who now wears the label—my husband.
We have now been married thirty-eight years, endured several overseas military deployments, walked through a couple of surgeries together, and now reside in the area known as ‘mother and father-in-law.’ This year, we placed onto our heads a metaphorically new hat to wear, one that brings us much excitement—that of grandparent.
As I sat reading the biblical writing of King Solomon, recalling what he wrote about the love relationship God intended for his chosen one, I remembered my dating years, my wedding day, and my years of marriage. Then my mind turned toward my marriage to my Savior. The Bible speaks it so, reminding each believer of the coming day—the wedding day.
This was God’s intent all along: a wedding of Himself to His bride. Despite what seems to be God’s long delay, the DAY IS COMING when believers in Jesus Christ will forever be with the Lord.
His faithfulness is unfailing!
Thus, the question remains—What shall we do in the wait?
“It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean;
for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” (The Revelation to John 19: 8 NASB)
We who believe—must be occupied during the wait.
We who are the redeemed—must be ready when the Lord says:
‘Arise, my darling, my beautiful one,
And come along.” (The Song of Solomon 2: 10b NASB)
We who are saved—must be about our Father’s work while we walk through our days here on earth. The apostle Paul was clear about his instructions in this.
- We must teach, discipling those who believe.
- We must trust God for the growth He provides.
- We must be planting seeds of faith, fully trusting that God will water the Gospel seeds of faith.
- We must patiently wait, praying for those who have hard hearts.
- We must faithfully pray and not cease.
- We must trust that God will intervene.
- We must trust God and keep praying.
- We must use all that God gives to us, doing all that He calls us to do because
GOD WILL DO SOMETHING INCREDIBLE IN THIS WORLD!
- Let us use our careers as opportunities to share the Gospel.
- Let us remember that each day is The Day of the Lord.
- Let us be intentional in our proclamation of the Gospel to the people who do not yet know Jesus.
- Let us keep one eye focused on those who surround us, who God places in our path &
- Let us keep one eye focused on the sky, listening for The Day Jesus Returns for His Bride!
“Listen!
My beloved!
Behold, he is coming,
- Climbing on the mountains,
- Leaping on the hills!
My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Behold, he is standing behind our wall,
- He is looking through the windows,
- He is peering through the lattice.
My beloved responded and said to me,
‘Arise, my darling, my beautiful one,
And come along.”
(The Song of Solomon 2: 8-10 NASB)
