Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

WHO will LORD over us?

“The words of the LORD are pure words;
As silver tried in the furnace on the earth,

refined seven times.
You, O LORD, will keep them;
You will preserve him from this generation forever.”

(The Psalms 12: 6-7 NASB)

You and I live in a world where words spoken, texted, posted, and written may not hold truth.

This is so sad.

It once could be said:  “A man’s word was golden,” meaning a person’s word was truthful and a binding contract.

Years, maybe generations ago, a person would speak, and those around would believe his words would stand the test of time.

Words such as—

  • I will always love you.
  • I will never leave you.
  • Together, we will get through this.
  • Together, until death will we part.
  • She’s a trustworthy soul, so believe her.
  • He’s a trustworthy soul, so believe him.

The Word of God, the Bible, guides us who believe,

for this single book is the infallible WORD of GOD!

The psalmist David understood this truth,

even when those surrounding him did not believe.

“Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases to be,
For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men.
They speak falsehood to one another;
With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak.”

(The Psalms 12: 1-2 NASB)
  • Could it be that the LORD directed His servant David to write of a future entity called ‘Social Media’?
  • Could it also be that our FATHER GOD knew that left to ourselves, we might just lie, rather than speak the truth?

For several years, I was blessed to work within the world of Mass Media, and when in college, my beloved professor and advisor never once spoke about the lies we would write for print media OR about the lies we would speak when we broadcast the news.  Yet here we are in mainstream America (and maybe worldwide) living in a time when what we hear on our televisions or read in the newspapers may just not be the whole truth, but instead the slanted, political truth spoken to sell or to promote a particular ideology.

Truly, it breaks my heart that we cannot now watch the news and believe it to be the FULL Truth.

We live in a fallen world, one that began generations ago in the Garden of Eden, and one that will remain until we see Jesus.  We live where promises are not kept, where pledges made are not met, and where handshakes mean nothing.  Our grandpas lived in a different time, a precious time, when a person’s word & his handshake were binding.

Those days may just be gone.

David spoke of this when he wrote—

“May the LORD cut off all flattering lips,
The tongue that speaks great things;
Who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail;
Our lips are our own;

who is lord over us?”

  (The Psalms 12: 3-4 NASB)

WHO will LORD over us?

  • HE HAS A NAME—JESUS CHRIST, our SAVIOR!
  • HE HAS A TITLE—KING of kings & LORD of lords!
  • HE HAS A POSITION—MESSIAH & REDEEMER!

HE DESIRES TO BE YOUR LORD & MINE!

  • May we read the Holy Word, studying it more than we read anything else.
  • May we read the Bible; trust it most of all.
  • May we read daily, diving deep into God’s Word!

May we proclaim the Truth Found Only in Bible

“Because of the devastation of the afflicted,
because of the groaning of the needy,
Now I will arise,” says the LORD,
“I will set him in the safety for which he longs.”

The words of the LORD are pure words;
As silver tried in a furnace on the earth,

refined seven times.
You, O LORD, will keep them;
You will preserve him from this generation forever.
The wicked strut about on every side
When vileness

[worthless words]
is exalted among the sons of men.”

(The Psalms 12: 5-8 NASB)
