Be Found As Trustworthy Stewards
“Let a man regard us in this manner,
(The 1st Letter of Paul to the Corinthians 4: 1-2 NASB)
as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
In this case, moreover,
it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.”
Humanly speaking, people always say, “The doctor healed her.” This was a conversation my sister and I enjoyed last evening as we road in the back seat on our way to the Hot Air Balloon Lift-Off. “That’s what everyone thinks and says,” my sister continued.
Whenever someone has surgery, they seem to believe the surgeon is just doing his job.
Pause right there to consider the implication of the ‘wrongness’ of this last statement.
“Just doing his job”
Truly, a surgeon performs surgery within the authority & power of Jesus—the Great Physician—whether or not a surgeon knows Jesus Christ as Lord.
Why is it that we live in a time and place where so many cannot see how the Lord guided the surgeon’s hands and healed the patient?
Why is it that we live in a place and time when so many cannot see the majesty of the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY?
If you are not acquainted with me, then you do not know that I underwent lower lumbar back surgery on May 9th. This was a momentous undertaking for me—not the surgery but the turning of my mind toward this necessary surgery.
- My husband knew it was needed.
- My daughter knew it was the next step.
- My second daughter thought it might be required.
- My family knew a surgery was important if my life were going to continue, for the rest of my body had begun to fatigue.
- My dearest friend was praying for me to make the right decision.
The problem was planted directly between my ears—FEAR.
- The FEAR of ‘what if’ the surgery does not help me get physically better?
- The FEAR of ‘what if’ I do this surgery and come out the other side, just the same & in pain?
- The FEAR that the LORD needed to take away from my mind and heart.
There’s a melody titled “God of All My Days” by Casting Crowns, a song whose lyrics remind us, the Christians, who it is we serve—“all our days.”
There is no other God than Almighty God!
There is not!
We know this is true because the Bible says so!
“For thus says the LORD,
(The Book of Isaiah 45: 18 & 21-22 NASB)
who created the heavens—
(He is the God who formed the earth and made it,
He established it and did not create it a waste place,
but formed it to be inhabited),
“I am the LORD, and there is none else.”

“Declare and set forth your case;
Indeed, let them consult together.
Who has announced this from of old?
Who has long since declared it?
Is it, not I, the LORD?
And there is no other God besides Me,
A righteous God and a Savior;
There is none except Me.
Turn to Me and be saved,
all the ends of the earth;
For I am God,
and there is no other.”
Now, many weeks removed from my lower lumbar surgery, I am firmly assured how it was the Great Physician, Father God:
Who took away my fear.
Who has taken away all my pain! &
Who placed the knowledge & skill needed within my surgeon’s hands.
I am so very thankful for my praying brothers & sisters-in-Christ.
I am so ever thankful for my Savior Jesus Christ!
- The LORD sustains everything!
- Our FATHER has authority over all things!
- GOD is never surprised!
- The CREATOR has never asked, “Why?”
Christians, we are to worship, kneel, bow, & praise—the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY!
Believers, we are to trust God for the next steps He places in front of us.
BECAUSE—
As a child of God, Believers are the bond-servants of Jesus Christ.
We have a future that only God knows.
As God’s children, Christians are called the saints of Christ Jesus.
We are & we know this is true because the Bible says so!
“Paul and Timothy,
(The Letter of Paul to the Philippians 1: 1 NASB)
bond-servants of Christ Jesus,
To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi,
including the overseers and deacons:”
Thus, as the saints of Christ, we are called to serve God!
- We are to serve wherever we are needed, as the hands & feet of Jesus—the Son of God!
This means—
- We are to kneel in prayer when we are afraid.
- We are to trust the Father & all that He says.
- We are to study God’s Word for our edification.
- We are to serve others, “as servants of Christ.” &
As God’s children, this means—
- We are to be “stewards of the mysteries of God.”
May We Be Found Trustworthy Stewards—JUST LIKE JESUS!
“Whatever you do,
(The Letter of Paul to the Colossians 3: 23-34 NASB)
do your work heartily,
as for the Lord rather than for men,
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance.
It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”
