Before the Beginning—God was!
Years ago, my husband was scheduled to return from his Iraqi deployment, and as one might imagine, I wanted to be there, to be present when he returned. This required that I purchase a ticket for a flight to California’s LAX, rent a car to drive the 1.5 hours north along the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway). If I took the initiative to set my affairs in order, then I would be rewarded with the sight I so wished to see—my husband walking toward me, seeing his eyes searching the crowd, searching for me.
Our Lord searches for each one He has created. It’s a fact because the Bible says so.
“Remember those who led you,
(The Letter to the Hebrews 13: 7-8 NASB)
who spoke the word of God to you;
and considering the result of their conduct,
imitate their faith.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Before the Beginning—God was!
Have we ever considered what was happening before God spoke the universe into existence?
Have we ever pondered what was occurring before the beginning of everything?
Have we ever wondered how the God of the universe needs nothing more than Himself?
God does not need anyone, anything; yet, still, He created us—you & me.
Have we ever asked ourselves WHY?
- God is infinite and has no limitations!
- God is perfect and has no need to improve!
- God is unchanging & will forever be changeless!
Before the Beginning—God was!
President Ronald Reagan was a Christian, a believer, & a father of two sons: one son was a believer and one son claimed to be an atheist. During his presidency, Reagan flew numerous miles on Air Force One, crossing the globe to meet with world leaders, working to bring peace during the time known as the Cold War. In one of these meetings, Reagan spoke a story something like this—
During WWII, a soldier was lying in a shell hole. The hour was midnight, and he was waiting for the order to attack. The soldier had never been a believer because he had been repeatedly told God did not exist, but that night, as he lay, staring up at the stars, he knew he had been wrong. Even though he had never contemplated creation, that night, gazing up at the stars from his shell hole, everything changed; he marveled at the multitude of stars and suddenly the young soldier realized the lie of atheism.
“The LORD is my light and my salvation;
(The Psalms 27: 1-5 NASB)
Whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the defense of my life;
Whom shall I dread?
When evildoers came upon me to
devour my flesh,
My adversaries and my enemies, they
stumbled and fell.
Though a host encamp against me,
My heart will not fear;
Though war arise against me,
In spite of this I shall be confident.
One thing I have asked from the
LORD, that I shall seek;
That I may dwell in the house of the
LORD all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD
And to meditate in His temple.
For in the day of trouble He will
conceal me in His tabernacle;
In the secret place of His tent He will
hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.”
- My husband has been deployed numerous times, and always he reminds me—“There are no atheists in a fox hole.”
- When a person comes to receive Christ as his Savior—
- When a person comes to accept the free gift of God’s Amazing Grace—
- When a person comes to know & confess Jesus as Lord of his life—
Then God places His seal, His Holy Spirit within us, promising to never, ever leave!
So, when we think about God, we pray & When God communicates with us, He is offering us answers to our prayers.
When we trust the LORD with our burdens, our concerns, our situations—
- HE IS THE ONE WHO IS UNCHANGING, WHO “is my light and my salvation;”
- HE IS THE ONE WHO IS “the defense of my life;”
- HE IS THE ONE WHO WILL PROTECT US FROM THE ENEMY!
- HE IS THE ONE WHO WILL “lift me up on a rock.”
