For this world is not our home
Two images became squarely planted in my mind this morning as I read the account of the devastating fires that burned the city, buildings, homes, and communities. Suddenly, precious life was lost! Truly, there is no return from that.
In recalling a place where my daughters and I just visited during our holiday, this place we traveled to was a land created by the eruptions of volcanos years ago. While visiting there, we learned how this was a place doomed for destruction, that seismologists currently speak of a volcano eruption that is expected—Soon!
Such Devastation.
Horrible Loss of Life.
Ever-burning Fire.
BUT GOD!
Merciful Faith in Jesus Christ.
HOPE!
Humanity, We MUST Know Jesus as our Savior!
For we know this world is not our eternal home!
The writer of Hebrews said it this way.
“For here we do not have a lasting city, but we are seeking the city which is to come.”
(Hebrews 13: 14 NASB)
As believers, we are looking forward to our everlasting home in heaven. Today, at the reports of the fires, I suddenly wondered: HOW MANY—Who died, Who remain unfound in the devastation, or Who have been located after this devastating fire—KNOW JESUS AS THEIR LORD?
We must trust in God!
- The kingdom of Heaven is constantly growing!
- The kingdom of Heaven, a spiritual place, is where we have unity in Christ.
We privately and collectively enjoy God’s presence deep in our heart.
We praise and serve God with other believers.
In the book of Matthew, Jesus Himself spoke a parable about the “Weeds Among Wheat,” and He said to those gathered there:
“But he said, [the landowner referenced within Jesus’ parable]
‘No;
while you are gathering up the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them.
Allow both to grow together until the harvest;
and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather up the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them;
but gather the wheat into my barn.” ‘ “
(Matthew 13: 29-30 NASB)
No place on earth exists that equals the horribleness of Hell, a truly real place!
We are to share the love of Christ with those who remain lost.
THE TRUTH: There is no place on earth that equals Heaven—the place Jesus Himself has prepared for those who believe!
- A destination location does not.
- A wonderfully beautiful earthly home does not.
- A long-sought-after property does not.
- NO PLACE EXISTS—ON THIS SIDE OF DEATH!
For—THE BELIEVER—this world is not our eternal home!
In the final book of God’s Word, the vision is revealed to the apostle John, and the Holy Spirit leads him to write these words:
“Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man,
(Revelation 14: 14 NASB)
[the Son of God Himself]
with a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand.”
Who do we know—today—who is not ready?
- May we be found faithful.
May we tell them—even today—For this world is not our home!
