A walk through life toward eternity

The Word of God—Our “Heart” Language

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you,
with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

(Colossians 3: 16 NASB)

If you know me, then you know that I am striving to learn something new during this fifty-sixth year of my life.  I find myself struggling daily, often scoring lower on the “tests” than I should, primarily because I am forgetful.  So, when the encouragement was given to “write down” what has been learned, to make a list, I took up that challenge, and the difference that simple step produced has created a lasting difference.

What, you may ask, am I attempting to learn—DUTCH—a new language.

When, you may ask, am I striving to study these new words—daily.

Where, you may ask, am I finding opportunity to learn—as I go throughout my day, for I carry the App within my phone.

Why, you may ask, am I struggling with the difficulties found in learning a new language?  It is because of the gift God has given to me—a young lady & a family of people—that I desire to learn their “heart” language.

In contemplating the way a person must study to learn a new language, I am reminded how we must be immersed in the language daily if the “heart” language is to SATURATE OUR BEING!

In talking with a former student who is currently living in a different place, she told me how she decided to study a new language this summer & learn a new language (one she did not know). This young student is doing so by studying daily, by taking an in-person language course, and by immersing herself in the language of the culture.

  • Is this not what God requires of us!
  • Is this not also what our Father desires of us!
  • Are not Christians (the children of God) called to IMMERSE THEMSELVES DAILY in the study of God’s Word!
  • Are not Believers (those who have been Redeemed through Christ Jesus) to walk through life IMMERSED DAILY in God’s “Heart” Language—God’s Holy Word!

Pause for a moment to listen as Rhett Walter & Essential Worship sing the melody: “Goodness of God.”

Be reminded WHY we are called to KNOW—STUDY—INTERPRET—MEMORIZE—&—IMMERSE—our “HEARTS” into GOD’S HOLY WORD!

  • Because of Jesus’ Sacrifice Upon the Cross—we do!
  • Because of God’s Amazing Grace—we do!
  • Because of the Holy Spirit’s Indwelling Presence—we do!

In this life, we memorize so many facts, details, & whatever we deem important. We even strive to memorize the words of a foreign language. So why do we not memorize God’s Word?

In fact, if we were to pause to count how many Bible verses OR how many whole Bible chapters we know from memory, would our list be long or way too short?

  • Father God sent His Only Son to Redeem us!
  • Our Savior paid the highest cost for us!
  • Jesus gave His life to save ours!
  • Our Father placed His Holy Spirit within every person who accepts, who believes, & who receives God’s salvation!

SO WHY WOULD WE NOT STRIVE TO MEMORIZE GOD’S HOLY WORD!

May we strive to place the WORD of GOD our “HEART” language deep within us!!!

  • Jesus is our Teacher!
  • God’s Word is our “Heart” Language!

We must READ & STUDY & LEARN & MEMORIZE!

Appropriately, today as I close this discourse, I am reminded of the first verse my (then) boyfriend (now husband) and I memorized together when he first became a Christian.

Quite possibly, this is the key to help us with our Scripture memorization:

Diligence!

Daily Focus Upon the Word!

Daily Prayer! & a

Daily Partner who will hold us accountable!

“All Scripture is inspired by God and [is] profitable for teaching, for reproof,
for correction, for training in righteousness;
so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”

(2 Timothy 3: 16-17 NASB)
