A walk through life toward eternity

God’s Word Given to Us—the Most Beautiful “Heart—Language” EVER!

“Now all the earth used the same language and the same words.”

(Genesis 11: 1 NASB)

If we know anything about the world, it’s that we (all the peoples of the world) speak different languages.

  • Greek.
  • Spanish.
  • French.
  • Dutch.
  • Russian.
  • German
  • Swedish
  • Ukrainian.
  • English.
  • Farsi.
  • Italian.
  • Armenian.
  • Arabic.
  • Hebrew.
  • Somalian.

The list remains endless when one considers all the separate languages and dialects that exist.  Can we ever imagine a time when the entire earth spoke the same language?!

Mind-boggling.

On the campus where I work, the blessing of language can be heard inside the dining hall, on the sidewalks as we pass by one another, in the library, on the athletic fields, in the sanctuary and classrooms, and most definitely inside the dormitories.  Ninety-two countries sharing the same campus!  Truly, it is an amazing place to share life and teach.

It is a fact how people naturally revert to their “heart language” when given the opportunity.  It’s as natural as opening our eyes when we arise from our beds.  Therefore, when people want to share life with others, they settle upon a natural language to converse.

A HEART—LANGUAGE.

Lately (as in the past seven years), this term has settled down wonderfully overtop me.  Let me explain.

When one comes to live in a foreign place, the language is naturally unique (strange, different, odd, and even a bit cumbersome), and then as life occurs, the foreign language where the person resides becomes less strange, less different, less odd, and even less cumbersome.  Nonetheless, even though it (the newly-acquired language) becomes more comfortable, still the person will revert back to his “heart—language” whenever given the chance for one particular reason:  it is the language he spoke in the home as a child.

The language of one’s heart can be defined as the language in which a person prays, dreams, and speaks to loved ones.  HEART:  the language of one’s heart.

Lately, I have begun the study of the “heart—language” of a young woman I love.  Let me first say:  It’s taken me seven years to gain the courage to begin this pursuit, to begin the study of Dutch;  nevertheless, I now practice daily with my phone App as my teacher (along with this beautiful young woman’s gentle correction).  Some days, my quiz scores are 100%, while other days, I find myself looking at the 78% score my tired brain has earned.

As a student of a different language (maybe you are too), this caused me to recall in God’s Word a historical time when the world spoke the same language, when the entirety of mankind could walk up to any person alive from any tribe of people and SPEAK FREELY and be understood PERFECTLY.  I know;  it really is hard to imagine a time such as this, but the Bible speaks of the historical moment, so we know it is true!

“Now all the earth used the same language and the same words.”

(Genesis 11: 1 NASB)

Yet, the narrative unfolds, revealing how the people sought change, and began to make plans:

“Then they said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks and fire them thoroughly.”
And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.
And they said
[to one another in the very same “heart—language” that God had given them to speak}, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let’s make a name for ourselves;  otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of all the earth.”

(Genesis 11: 3-4 NASB)

God saw their plan.

God was not pleased with their plan, so He altered their plan because He knew what really lay at the center of their heart.  God knew what was impossible for the people of that day, & and still today, God knows what is impossible for us too.

Therefore, that’s when God said:

“Come, let Us [Father God, Son of God, and Holy Spirit] go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”
“So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth;  and they stopped building the city.”

(Genesis 11: 7-8 NASB)

As this narrative unfolds upon the pages of the Bible, it causes us to scratch our heads and wonder why the people would ever mess up in such a way, when life seemed to be so good for them.

  • That’s when we recall what occurred back in Genesis 3.
  • That’s when we recall the fall of man when sin entered into the heart of mankind. &
  • That’s when we remember the “goodness & grace” of a most holy God.  &
  • That’s when we remember why God sent His Only Son Jesus to earth.  &
  • That’s when we praise God for His Word Given to Us—the Most Beautiful “Heart—Language” Ever Written!

God’s Word records everything we will ever need to walk through our day!

God’s Word is sufficient!

God’s Word will never lead us astray!

God’s Word—written so every person can read and understand!

God’s Word—given so we can come to know HIM!

God’s Word will always show us how to become more like Jesus!

God’s Word—Given to Us—the Most Beautiful “Heart Language” Ever Written!

God’s Word leads us to another passage, one found within in the last book—Revelation.  I think it is so awesome how God uses “heart—language” narratives as the bookends of His Holy Word.  Please pause to read with me, and please be amazed (as I am) at the way God always makes ALL THINGS RIGHT!

“After these things I looked, [the Apostle John saw God’s vision revealed] and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all the tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands;
and they cried out with a loud voice,

saying,

“Salvation belongs to our God
who sits on the throne, and to the
Lamb.”

(Revelation 7: 9-10 NASB)

WHAT A SCENE THAT WILL BE!

I WILL BE THERE!

WILL YOU BE THERE TOO?

  • MAY EACH OF US STUDY GOD’S HEART—LANGUAGE &
  • MAY EACH OF US LEND OUR HANDS IN JESUS’ LOVE & SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH THOSE WHO DO NOT YET KNOW HIM AS SAVIOR.
  • IN PREPARATION—FOR THE DAY TO COME WHEN WE WILL STAND TOGETHER, LIFTING OUR VOICES IN THE SAME “HEART—LANGUAGE,” BEFORE THE THRONE OF GOD!
