“Take up his cross daily and follow Me” means we Must follow God!
Yesterday was a day set aside to attend Sunday School, and as I arrived, there were some class members already present. Walking in, I could see many seats were available; however, I also could see how the teacher’s seat remained empty. Next to that chair is where I stowed my things: my computer bag, my purse, and my jacket. Where I sat was already determined: I had agreed, months ago at the start of the church year, to serve as their teacher. In fact, in 1991, I had agreed, and since that time, years ago, my position had not altered. I served in the role of the teacher of the Young Adult class, even though in order to see ourselves that way, we needed to talk to the sixty, seventy, eighty, and ninety-year-olds because every person in our class was fifty—plus a few years!
As I sat down in the chair given to the teacher, I came to share the lesson, but before the day was complete, before I sat again in the driver’s seat of my Subaru, God allowed two others, a brother, and a sister-in-Christ, to teach me. Thank You, God for those brothers and sisters You have gifted us to know & who You have surrounded us with as we worship.
We began our study of the book of John, and I asked the question:
“How do we answer the question: What do you mean when you talk about being a Christian?” That’s when I learned a valuable lesson, one that was not immediately revealed to me until this morning. One member of the class, a man who spoke with wisdom, uttered this answer to the question: “We must follow Him (Jesus).” Such a simple response; yet a response that now resonates with authority as the Bible reveals His truth.
Yesterday, after church dismissed, as I stepped out into the parking lot with one of my sisters, she voiced the answer to a question, one I thought was already answered within my heart. She said: “You have taken on much, and maybe that’s not God’s will. Maybe God wants you to just rest so you can hear HIM.”
Even though I was the designated teacher, thank goodness, I was the learner, the pupil, the student as others taught me!
Let us read God’s Word together.
“Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking actual words of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and domain forever and ever. Amen.”
(1 Peter 4: 11 NASB)
People are watching what we do.
People are listening to what we say.
People want to know: Is the God you say you serve, Is He real?
People will see a hypocrite, a fake, a phony quickly.
People will turn away, will look away, and will remain lost.
We must TAKE SERIOUSLY THE GREAT COMMISSION GOD HAS GIVEN TO US—HIS CHILDREN!
We must TAKE UP OUR CROSS DAILY, & we must FOLLOW HIM (JESUS our SAVIOR & LORD)!
We must be RADICAL in our WORSHIP of the KING of KINGS!
We must be RADICAL & deny ourselves as we take up our cross every day we live!
We must be RADICAL & Follow HIM—Jesus Christ our Savior, our REDEEMER, our LIFE!
We must be RADICAL & stop living by our own agendas and our own dreams!
We must be RADICAL & give up doing “life” in our own way!
Jewish Holocaust survivor Deitrich Bonhoeffer said: “Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.”
There is a beautiful melody that speaks this truth. Please pause to listen with me.
“You are my joy; You are my song.
You are the well, the one I’m drawing from/
You are my refuge, my whole life long/
Where else would I go?
Surely My God is the strength of my soul/
Your love defends me. . .
Day after day; night after night/
I will remember You’re with me in this fight/
Although the battle, it rages on/
The war is already won!”

Our Strength.
Our Courage.
Our Battles.
Our Victory.
Our EVERYTHING belongs to HIM as we enjoy HIS Rest and Surrender our control to GOD!
