“God is very cool”
“God is very cool.” These were the words my daughter sent to me early this morning, and I must admit, these four words made me pause.
Let’s first understand the backstory, the reason why she texted me these four words. Yesterday was a day of hugs and kisses and goodbyes as we parted (my daughter and I) as she prepared to take an international flight home. You see, she lives 5,000+ miles away from me, across the “pond,” and on another continent, inside a different country as I. So, yesterday morning was a day of saying goodbye. How that made me feel is a topic for another day, but as she traveled, landing first in Atlanta and then at the place she calls “home,” I had the opportunity to speak with her along the journey. (Technology is such a blessing!)
Last night at my bedtime, she was settled into her long flight and headed away from me. As I prepared for bed and placed my head upon the pillow, I began to talk with God, to praise Him for the opportunity to have my daughter home for a few days and to ask Him to provide safety to her as she journeyed—home.
Before I drifted off to sleep, secure in the peace that God would keep her safe, I asked God for one additional provision—Please wake me when it’s time for her to land.
“God Is Very Cool.”
- All the time!
- In every way!
- On every day! &
- For All Believers.
At exactly 2:57 am, God shook me awake, just as I had asked Him to do.
“Should be landing in about 30 mins” was my daughter’s message.
“Oh yay!!!!” was my reply.
“You should be asleep. . .” she immediately texted back to me.
In jest, I retorted, “You texted me.”
As predicted, she replied to my retort, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t think it would wake you up.”
GOD!
HE—IS—VERY—AMAZINGLY—COOL!!!!!!
“No, seriously.
I asked God to help me wake up close to when you landed. God shook me awake.”
This is when my daughter returned to me these four beautiful words—“God is very cool.”
- God provides for our needs.
- God saves the lost.
- God calls us to trust Him.
- God expects us to call upon Him.
- God answers our prayers.
- “God is very cool.”
- God walks beside us throughout our life.
- God carries our burdens whenever we give them to Him.
- God provides us the peace that we so desperately need.
- God leads us to witness, to testify of His goodness to those who don’t know Him.
- God smooths out the wrinkles of our fears as we keep our focus upon Him.
- “God is very cool.”
- God is our strength & our love.
- God is jealous for us; He wants us to only seek His face and no other gods.
- God desires our worship every single day.
- God is our refuge.
- God provides His mercies, new every morning.
- God shakes us awake to speak with our daughters as they prepare to land on a foreign soil.
“God is [So] very cool.”
In praising my God this morning, I read a psalm of David as King Saul sent some warriors who watched David’s house as they sought to kill him (as commanded by the king). Rather than quaking in his fear, David lifted his praise to God.
See with me this morning the beautiful praise David lifts to the LORD, even when David should fear the loss of his life.
“They return at evening, they howl like a dog,
And go around the city.
They wander about for food
And growl if they are not satisfied.
But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength;
Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For You have been my stronghold
And a refuge in the day of my distress.
O my strength, I will sing praises to You;
For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me lovingkindness.”
(Psalm 59: 14-17)
- God hears our plea.
- God knows our heart.
- God understands our anxiety.
- God leads us as we go, if we allow Him to lead.
- God sustains us, keeps us, comforts us, and comes for us when our lives are complete.
- God shakes us awake when we ask Him to help us arise for our little girls.
- God Does!
We are to listen—to God.
We are to know—God’s voice.
We are to follow—God’s leading.
We are to obey—God Always.
We are to praise—our LORD.
We are to ask, “God, open my eyes, LORD; help me see YOU most & forgive me when I don’t.
We must be people of habit, seeking God’s will every morning. We must continually listen to hear God speak. We are to hear God speak—even when we are asleep.
It is in the quiet & gentle breeze of breathing that we hear God.
Jesus Himself speaks these words of His Holy Spirit to comfort & reassure His disciples, and these words are comforting and reassuring to us still today.
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.
All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.”
(John 16: 13-15)
Our God is very cool. Help us to listen to the things You desire to disclose to us.
Help us listen in our daily wakefulness.
Help us listen in the slumber of our sleep.
Thank You, God, for being YOU!
Thank You, God, for YOUR Faithfulness!
Patrick Mayberry sings “No One Like You Lord,” a beautiful melody of God’s amazing wonderfulness. Maybe you can find time today to listen with hands lifted in praise to our God.
