A walk through life toward eternity

The Last Will & Testament & Living Will Found in the Power of God!

Are we aware of God’s presence within us and of God’s possession of our lives?

Our living will.

Our last will & testament.

Our power of attorney.

Years ago, my husband and I did not have these documents; that was BEFORE my husband was called to deploy.  During the years before his first deployment, we walked throughout our days, confident that we were prepared to face life as it came, to tackle struggles as they appeared, and to overcome obstacles as they arose.

Then my husband received his first orders to deploy.

That was a game-changer.

Being left behind, as he was taken to another continent, another country, created a need for us to make ourselves ready for the possibility of the “what if.”

What if—

  • He does not return home?
  • He returns home incapacitated?
  • We need to take legal action while he is away from us?
  • We both are taken from this world and our daughter is left behind—alone?
  • We are injured beyond repair, beyond recovery?

The “what ifs” changed our thinking, and I am so thankful they did.

The “what ifs” reminded us of our life and death and eternal destination.

The “what ifs” touched our hearts as we named those who would oversee and protect the child the LORD had given us to raise.

The “what ifs” caused us to remember WHO possesses our souls & WHO remains the owner of us.  &

They reminded us that we never walk alone, not even through death, when we belong to Almighty God.

Someday, we will each pass away; it’s inevitable.  Our bodies are decaying; our minds are slowing to a crawl; and our bones are just fatigued.  If we could live forever—here upon earth & within this shell of a body—would we even want to—live that way?

Think for a moment about the aches of our body.  Would we want to walk forevermore—

Upon our creaky knees?

With our achy shoulders?

Plagued with the soreness of a back?

Forgetful and unremembering the names, the places, and the details we once knew?

With the slowness of life that comes with age?

With the slowness of mind that comes with age?

With the body we currently have today?

In the condition we walk and live today?

I would not, and I think you would not either.

Those who belong to God, who are God’s personal possession are looking forward to the day when we will receive a new body and walk with Him within the heavenly realm.

  • Our last will and testament contains these words—“Everything I own & possess—belongs to God.”
  • Our living will speaks these words—“Don’t keep me alive, but let me go home to be with God when my time of death arrives.”
  • Our power of attorney proclaims these words—“The power of God lives within me, and I am led by that same power as His Holy Spirit guides me day-by-day.”

At fifteen, when I accepted Jesus Christ as my LORD & Savior, I did not totally understand how God would direct my life or how my life would be changed by the presence of God living inside me.  Now, forty years later, I am learning and experiencing this truth more and more.

Mack Brock  sings a melody titled “Covered” that really should be enjoyed this day.  We are “covered” by the blood of the Lamb, and this covering exceeds EVERYTHING we could ever imagine!

God’s Word records an image of what the multitude of heaven will be like when we arrive—those who have accepted the salvation of God.  See with me the image of heaven the apostle John records in The Revelation.

“After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands;

and they cry out with a loud voice, saying,

‘Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.’

And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures;  and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying,

‘Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever.  Amen.’ . . .

For this reason, they are before the throne of God;  and they serve Him day and night in His temple;  and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them.

They will hunger no longer,

nor thirst anymore;

nor will the sun beat down on them,

nor any heat;

for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life;  and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

(The Revelation 7: 9-12)

Are we aware of God’s presence within us and of God’s possession of our lives?

King Solomon was aware of God’s presence and protection and guidance within his life (even though he was a sinful man just like us).  In his teachings, King Solomon wrote to remind his son and to remind us of the only way—

  • We can LIVE for JESUS!
  • We can WALK within HIS WAY!
  • We can REMAIN in the POWER of GOD!
  • We can PREPARE ourselves to meet our FATHER GOD one day soon!

“But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,

That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.

The way of the wicked is like darkness;

They do not know over what they stumble.

My son [and daughter], give attention to my words;

Incline your ear to my sayings.

Do not let them depart from your sight;

Keep them in the midst of your heart.

For they are life to those who find them

And health to all their body.

Watch over your heart with all diligence,

For from it flow the springs of life.

Put away from you a deceitful mouth

And put devious speech far from you.

Let your eyes look directly ahead

And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.

Watch the path of your feet

And all your ways will be established.

Do not turn to the right nor to the left;

Turn your foot from evil.

My son [and daughter], give attention to my wisdom,

Incline your ear to my understanding; . . .”

(Proverbs 4: 18 to 5: 1)
  • May we remember that we are only on loan—here on earth—for a short time.
  • May we remember WHO possesses our soul.
  • May we remember WHO directs our daily steps.
  • May we remember WHO will come for us and WHO will take us home.
  • May we remember WHO is our Master & LORD.
