A Costly Grace
During last evening, my husband called out to me from the living room, asking me to come watch with him a news clip about a young artist. That young girl’s name was nineteen-year-old Anne Wilson. During her interview, she spoke of her prayer journal and how for a long time, she wrote two words across every page—MY JESUS.
Wilson said (during the news interview) that after some time had passed, she noticed her pattern of words, and so she prayed, asking God, “Why.” Wilson said God’s response was “because I am yours and you are MINE.”
I am Yours.
Jesus is Mine.
The cost of this purchase, this payment, this transaction, this GRACE—Priceless!
The redeeming love of God for mankind—Transforming!
The day-to-day life without the presence of God’s Holy Spirit with us—Unfathomable!
Life without—MY JESUS—Unimaginable!
“HE makes a way where there ain’t no way/
Rises up from an empty grave/
Ain’t no sinner that HE can’t save/
“Let me tell you ‘bout MY JESUS”—A. Wilson
In studying this morning, I realized that I have a choice—we each have a choice.
Yes, always a choice.
A decision.
A daily decision—one that will change our daily walk.
We can have a “cheap” Christianity that offends no one.
OR
We can have a “deep, resonating, faith-led, obedient to God, living sacrifice” kind of Christian walk.
What are we willing to choose today?
MY JESUS.
YOUR JESUS.
HE CHOSE A “COSTLY GRACE” TO REDEEM US!
Are we willing to walk a path of Christianity that costs us nothing?
Are we—really?
If we are familiar with Christian melodies, then we have heard Wilson’s song “My Jesus” playing on the radio. Sing with me part of Wilson’s lyrics—
“Let me tell you ‘bout MY JESUS/
Rises up from an empty grave/
Ain’t no sinner that HE can’t save/
Let me tell you ‘bout MY JESUS/
HIS LOVE is strong and HIS GRACE is free/
And the good news is I know that HE/
Can do for you what HE’S done for me/
Let me tell you ‘bout MY JESUS/
And let MY JESUS change your life
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Amen
Amen, Amen”—A. Wilson
My Bible reading led me to a passage, one that included a quoted Scripture passage. See with me God’s Word.
“How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed?
How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard?
And how will they hear without a preacher?
How will they preach unless they are sent?
Just as it is written, “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!”
(Romans 10: 14-15)
God’s Grace.
God’s Love for us.
God’s Son Jesus Christ.
God’s Salvation.
God’s Redeeming, Costly Grace.
MY JESUS.
“HIS LOVE is strong and HIS GRACE is free/
And the good news is I know that HE/
Can do for you what HE’S done for me/
Let me tell you ‘bout MY JESUS/
And let MY JESUS change your life . . . .”—A. Wilson
Let us NOT be willing to walk a path of Christianity that costs us nothing?
The Bible tells us that once we believe, once we have asked Jesus to receive His Amazing Grace, once we belong to God, then we are to be “built up” in Christ.
Are we allowing ourselves to be “built up”?
Were we “built up” yesterday?
Will we be “built up” today?
—We each have a choice.
Yes, always a choice.
A decision.
A daily decision—one that will change our daily walk.
There are just some details that we don’t yet know.
We don’t know what Jesus looked like.
We don’t know what His voice sounded like when he spoke.
We don’t know exactly his height.
We don’t know what he loved to eat.
We don’t know who he played with as a child.
We don’t know what he liked to create when he worked with Joseph in the woodworking shop.
We don’t know—some simple things.
BUT WE DO KNOW . . .
THAT WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD SPEAKS TO OUR HEART,
WHEN GOD OFFERS US HIS SALVATION, HIS SAVING GRACE,
WE KNOW . . .
JESUS CHRIST CAN BECOME—MY JESUS!
JESUS CHRIST CAN BECOME—YOUR JESUS!
Today, I leave you with a question—Who is Jesus to you?
Is He just some prophet?
Is He just some “good” man who once lived?
Is He just a baby born in a manger, celebrated at Christmastime?
Is He just a man who performed miracles and did some “good” in the world when he lived?
Who is Jesus of Nazareth?
MY JESUS GAVE HIS LIFE ON THE CROSS OF CALVARY!
MY JESUS OFFERS EACH MAN-WOMAN-BOY-& GIRL—A COSTLY GRACE!!!
MY JESUS GAVE HIS ALL SO WE COULD ACCEPT HIS FREE GIFT OF GRACE, SO WE CAN KNOW HIM FOREVER IN ETERNITY!
The Apostle Paul wrote to the believers at Colossae, words the Holy Spirit of God led him to write, words recorded within God’s Holy Word. Please read with me.
“That their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
(Colossians 2: 2-3)
