Revelations from The Blue Room
Do I know you?
Have we met before?
I just feel as if I know you.
Are you from this area?
You look so familiar.
I feel as if we have met before.
These are the thoughts we ponder when our path crosses with someone who we “think” we should know. Maybe we cannot put our finger on it, but we sense a connection with another, one as if we don’t need introductions because we have already met.
Today, can we identify with these thoughts?
Are there just some people in this world who we meet, but when we meet, it seems as if we have already met….before…That we already know them…..somehow?
When that occurs, what do we do? How do we react? How do we move forward into a deeper connection?
Yesterday, I met someone for the first time. We met for the first time (ever) when I rang her front doorbell. It was not then that I felt the connection. No. That was a moment for pleasantries and insignificant chit chat. We walked down her hallway, past her bedrooms, past her inner sanctuary of private life that we call “our home,” and at the end of the hallway, on the left side of the hall, on the front side of her home, we entered her office, the place, and the reason for my visit. The Blue Room.
If you know me, then you also know I have been struggling with a lower back issue, one that I am convinced began with COVID, one that began last March when my teaching changed from one of movement to one of sitting at my kitchen table.
Yes, my lower back and hip brought me to this person’s home, an appointment I had made a month ago, one I had looked forward to for many days.
YET……..
It was not the treatment that she administered to my back that causes me to write today.
It was our conversation we spoke, one that began immediately, at once, as soon as she led me through her living room, down the hallway, and into the last room located on the left side of the hallway, the front side of her home & into…..
The Blue Room.
“We have a kindred spirit.” Her words, not mine. I sensed it, but did not voice my agreement until she spoke her words to me.
And since our first encounter, I have pondered WHY…….WHY Did We Connect as We Did?
We do share some similarities.
We are both women, females.
We are both mothers.
We are both retired educators from the county system.
We have both worked in other fields other than education.
We both like to talk.
We both write.
We both hope to live long.
We both hope to work long in this life God has gifted us to live.
We both are not from this area but raised in other areas and brought here…way back when.
BUT……..
We also share some differences.
She is a woman of 73 years, & I am a woman, ten days away from becoming a speeder, a girl of 55 years.
She is a mother of boys, & I once asked God for six boys, way back when.
She is a retired Special Ed and gifted & talented educator, & I taught English to high schoolers my entire career.
She worked in another field–in the field of criminal justice and therapy, & I also worked in the field of radio communication and sales.
We both like to talk; there is no difference found there.
We both write….poetry for her, words she has published, & this daily blog for me, words I share online with others.
We both hope to live and work long; there is no difference found there.
We both were not from here, but transplanted here years ago, & again, there is also no difference found there.
So, we stood together, there in the Blue Room, noticing our similarities and our differences, & that’s when she spoke the words…”We are kindred spirits.”
WHY?
What makes us so?
What do we share that made our first encounter seem like we were just picking up a conversation where we left off days earlier…..even though we had never met before?
Our connection can only be defined with the answer to a single question.
WHO IS THIS JESUS & HOW HAS HE CHANGED OUR LIVES?
In the Bible, the author of Hebrews answers this question for us, and in the answer, I find the reason for our immediate connection, to the reason behind our “kindred spirits.”
“Kindred Spirits”…..For Just One Reason.
Sisters Already…..For Just One Reason.
Connected…..For Just One Reason.
WHY?
HOW?
JESUS CHRIST IS OUR SAVIOR & JESUS CHANGES US FROM WITHIN AS WE WALK DAILY WITHIN HIS HOLY SPIRIT, WALKING TOWARD OUR FATHER GOD & OUR ETERNAL HOME IN HEAVEN.
Thank You God, for helping us know “kindred spirits.”
Thank You God, for sending Jesus Christ as our Savior.
Thank You God, for Giving us Your Holy Spirit.
Thank You God, for YOU, for Your Presence, for Your Salvation.
God the Father.
God the Son.
God the Holy Spirit.
“For God so loved the world, [us] that He gave His only begotten Son, [Jesus Christ] that whoever [that’s us] believes in Him [in the salvation God offers through the sacrifice of Jesus upon the cross—His death & His resurrection again to new life three days later—Jesus’ payment for our sins] shall not perish, [live separated, in utter darkness, in torment, in hell, away from God’s presence] but have eternal life [live within the light of God, in paradise, in heaven, within God’s presence forevermore].
(John 3:16)
