Living Our Moments
We are people who like to make plans (in case you forgot), and as such (you know—people), we like to compartmentalize ourselves. Yes, we place these little things upon ourselves, things we call—our moments—into little tiny place holders, much like we see ourselves do when we add all the things we wish to do on our paper calendar squares–OR–on our mobile phone electronic calendars–OR–on our “to-do” lists we carry within our pockets..
We like to place our moments into tidy small boxes we call—-minutes, hours, weeks, months, days, and years.
We like to make plans…for all the minutes, hours, days….for the moments of our lives, but what can we really do with just one single minute, hour, day, week, month, year, or even in a lifetime of years?
Today, for sake of conversation, let’s consider what we can do with some of our moments (if we tried really hard & if we planned with all our might)………..WE COULD………
- Get married to the love of our life.
- Pass the last exam in a series of exams for our career.
- Plan for a reunion, one that will celebrate those we enjoy calling our “family.”
- Celebrate Retirement.
- Birth a baby that we have carried to full term.
- Plan our funeral at the local mortuary.
- Push a child on a swing, back and forth, back and forth, and back and forth.
- Begin a brand new hobby.
- Sit completely stationary and watch life speed by.
- Travel to see someone we have not seen for such a long time.
- Stop a painful habit.
- Cause another to smile, to see the joy found in this one moment.
- Fast & Pray.
- Begin a brand new season of life.
- Pass away and step into eternity.
- Leave for the vacation of a lifetime.
- Begin a brand new friendship.
- Reach the final day of an event we have been counting down to reach.
- Fall in love with someone new.
- Drive, Bike, Run, Boat, Fly, Walk, or Crawl to reach someone who we just know we must forgive.
- Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray.
- Call a friend, one who we have not shared time with in a super long time.
- Seek the TRUTH of God and Accept Jesus as our Savior
- See someone in a new and refreshing way.
- Read the names etched on a wall—men and women who died so we could live free.
- Hurt someone— slander his name, steal his spouse, or hurt his child.
- Create joy in the life of another.
- Hug. Hug. Hug. Hug.
- Raise our right hand and promise to serve.
Yes, so much can be done—-in the moments of our lifetime.
Yes, we are blessed to enjoy so many moments. &
Yes, God allows us to freely use our moments, whether for good or for bad. &
Yes, whether we make plans or just allow our lives to unfold, our moments will pass before our eyes.
So, whether we make plans or just allow life to unfold, we are each gifted with moments of time to plan, moments of time to mark on our calendars, and even with moments of time to postpone that which we KNOW we should seek to do.
How does Almighty God desire that we use our moments—-our seconds, our hours, our days, and our life?
How would the Creator of the world (the ONE who holds all time and all space and of life), yes, how would Father God expect us to utilize the precious moments He has gifted us to experience?
Would God ever have us squander our moments?
OR
Would Almighty God (INSTEAD) have us…..
***Grab life with fullness, loving others as we reflect Him to the lost world of people.
***Hold on tightly to someone who must endure a moment of grieving.
***Stand beside another who finds himself smack inside the struggle of a lifetime.
***Help those who are unable to help themselves.
***Love. Love. Love. Love in Jesus name.
The man, King Solomon, understood the importance of moments, of minutes, of hours, of days, and of the way we plan out our lifetimes. Inspired by God, Solomon reminds us how to make our plans.
“Many plans are in a man’s heart,
But the counsel of the LORD will stand” (Proverbs 19:21).
We can make all the plans in the world, but if we are only planning selfishly for ourselves, planning only for the things, the events, the experiences, and the travels we desire…..then are we really living as God would have us live?
We make plans. We book flights. We secure hotel rooms. We mark the little squares on our calendars, and then we count “down” the days, BUT is that really how God would want us to live?
Are those plans (the ones our heart desires) the only plans for this moment we call “TODAY” we should seek?
Should we also seek the LORD to see if our plans align with His will for our moments–our minutes, our hours, our days, our weeks, our months, our years, and our lifetime?
WWJD………….This was a popular saying from days gone by; yet a statement that still rings true for our moment of space we call……..TODAY.
Jesus told us Himself exactly how we should pray, how we should seek the “counsel of the LORD” (Proverbs 19: 21).
In fact, Jesus demonstrated how we should stop to pray, how we should seek God’s will for our time God has gifted us to live.
Jesus offered us these instructions in a model prayer, in Jesus’ own words, the precise way we should walk through our moments.
“Your kingdom come [God’s Kingdom].
(Matthew 6:10)
Your will be done [God’s will],
On earth as it is in heaven” [God’s domain].
There is so much that we cannot control. &
There is so much we can (control).
Let us……..DO all that we can do today as we walk within God’s will. &
Let us…….SEEK God’s counsel for each of today’s daily moments…..BECAUSE…..the Creator of ALL Life’s Moments (Almighty God) knows the best for our lives. Truly, there is no better place to live the moments of our today than within God’s perfect will. &
Let us…….REMEMBER who holds the whole world in His hands (Our Life, Our Death, and all of Our Moments). &
Let us…….PRAY, asking God what His will is for our day. &
Let us…….LIVE to do just WHAT JESUS WOULD DO…….with every one of our moments. &
Let us…….BEGIN this new season of Moment–By–Prayerful–Moment–“LIVING”–In The Span of This One Moment Called “Today” That God Himself Has Created.
