Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Wherever the LORD leads, His promises remain

“I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will see and fear
And will trust in the LORD.”

(The Psalms 40: 1-3 NASB)

Maybe you find yourself standing in a place of decision, a place where God calls you to see life differently.  Then realize how you are not alone but share with countless other believers the place of calling.  Oftentimes, we hear this word and think that it is something young men are to recognize as they are called into the pastorate, or we see this word and think it is relational only to young men and women called into the mission field.

These are both true definitions of one’s calling, but they are NOT the ONLY way to define one’s calling.

  • Could GOD be calling you to step from one career into a new “type” of work?
  • Might the LORD be calling you to change from one place to another “within” your chosen career? &
  • Should one hear the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit and dismiss it?

No, one should not, but he is to patiently wait upon the LORD’S timing, even while praying to the Father.  It is there in the sustaining, in the in-between, the LORD calls.  Our task is to remain in His Word, to pray, and to remain active for the LORD, even while patiently waiting.

Holy Spirit, call our name through Your leading and by Your power.  Help us Lord to hear, to willing walk wherever you call us to go.  Thank You for always shepherding us into the way we are to go. We love You, LORD, for You have made us alive with Christ, unbinding us from those things that may hold us from obeying.  You are the one who surrounds us with other believers, with Your church, who step with us as we walk this journey of life together.  Help us to walk alongside them, too, as they leave behind the old life and step into the new.

We sense the randomness of life, thinking it might be odd how events occur, but according to Your Word, we know that nothing is random but ordained by You.

“The lot is cast into the lap,
But its every decision is from the LORD.”

(The Proverbs 16: 33 NASB)
  • You, LORD, establish us by the small details of our lives.
  • You, FATHER, prepare us even when we are merely living life.
  • You, SPIRIT, remind us repeatedly how there are no chance happenings but only divine moments, only providence.

God, we thank You that service opportunities come as we faithfully walk through the seasons of our lives.  You perfectly prepare us as we go.  We stand upon Your promises.  Maybe we are not being pulled from the “miry clay” as the psalmist David, and maybe there is not a “pit of destruction” we need to be pulled from today.  Might we be facing a new season of life and wonder: LORD, what’s next for us?’ Whether we are led into a new place of employment or into a new position in our current place of work or even into the season of retirement, Father, we know with assurance that Your gentle grace will lead us where we are to go.  Thank You, LORD.

“And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will see and fear
And will trust in the LORD.”

(The Psalms 40: 2b-3 NASB)
