The WAY!
Years ago, when I was a teenager, there was a popular song, and one of the lyrics included these words: “One way or another, I’m going to getcha, getcha, getcha.” Now, it’s easy to know this song was not speaking about God’s gift of salvation or about God’s eternal home for those who place their trust in Jesus as Savior; however, in recalling these lyrics, we are reminded of the many “Ways” the world thinks they might reach heaven.
- Some, as in the Old Testament days, strive to obey a strict set of laws and regulations.
- Others, attempt to work their way into heaven, doing all the “good” they possibly can.
- Still, there are certain ones who just “hope” they’re living “clean enough” lives, then if there is a God, He will have compassion on them and let them into heaven.
- Some have what might be a taking a chance, as in “a wing & a prayer,” somewhat like “hoping” to win the lottery.
- Then there are those who just refuse to believe there are eternal places: heaven or hell, and who believe that when a person dies, he just dies and that’s it.
This last group might be the saddest group of all.
In The Gospel According to John 14, we learn the truth of God, and we know—
THE TRUTH—IT WILL SET US FREE!
There is only ONE WAY to heaven, and it comes through
- Belief in God! &
- Belief in the sacrifice Jesus gave on the cross of Calvary!
Jesus said:
“Do not let your heart be troubled;
(John 14:1 NAS)
believe in God, believe also in Me.”
Confession of our sins, seeking God’s forgiveness leads to our salvation. We must be born again to receive this free gift of God’s Grace. Once we confess our sins, then we come to know Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.
Then we understand The WAY home to heaven.
Jesus spoke about His eternal home, the place He has gone to prepare.
Jesus said:
“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places;
(John 14:2 NAS)
if it were not so, I would have told you,
for I go to prepare a place for you.”
There are millions of people around the world who are not ready to die, who do not have peace because they do not personally know the One who gives them peace.
- They need to know The WAY!
- They need to know the Son of God!
- They need to know Jesus Christ!
Between mankind and God lies a cross, and the man who died upon the cross is the only WAY for peace between God and mankind. Jesus Himself tells us so.
“If I go and prepare a place for you,
(John 14:3-4 NAS)
I will come again and receive you to Myself,
that where I am, there you may be also.
And you know the way where I am going”
Thomas, one of Jesus’ disciples said,
“Lord, we do not know where you are going,
(John 14:5 NAS)
how do we know the way?”
Then Jesus said these most wonderful words filled with eternal HOPE—
“I am the way,
(John 14:6 NAS)
and the truth,
and the life;
no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
Jesus is not “someway” or “one of the variety of ways” or even a “way of chance” one plays in order to reach heaven.
NO!
JESUS IS THE WAY TO HEAVEN!
IF SOMEONE DOES NOT KNOW JESUS AS PERSONAL SAVIOR, THEN THERE IS NO SALVATION.
FOR JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY WAY TO SALVATION!
The Bible states the TRUTH with clarity—“no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
Therefore, since we know The WAY to heaven is only through Jesus, then why do so many think that when they get to heaven, they’ll get to finally meet Jesus. It’s as if they’ve been invited to this magnificent event and as if their invitation is on the fridge to help them remember. They are just here on earth waiting for their heavenly clothing to wear. Some think they just need to wait for heaven’s angels to come carry them home to heaven, but that’s not true at all.
- Once we confess our sins and believe in JESUS as our SAVIOR—
- Once we know the WAY, the TRUTH & the LIFE—
- Once we trust the TRUTH JESUS SPEAKS—
Then we also realize how we will step into His embrace, as He whispers—”Welcome home.”
We will recognize His voice because we have been walking with Him daily.
At the moment of our earthly death, our spiritual soul departs from our earthly body, and we enter into a glorious reunion with our Savior Jesus Christ—The WAY!
Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed!
