Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

“first let them leap to hell over our bodies”

From 2025 to 1999, there has been a span of 26 years, a number easy to remember because it also reflects the age of my daughters.  Twenty-six years ago, today, my dad went home, and I often ask myself:  “I wonder what his time looks like, there in heaven?”

From 2025 to 1941, there has been a span of 83 years, a number easy to remember because it also reflects the age my dad would have been today, if he were still alive and marching toward his September birthday.

Later today, I will stop by the care center to check on our Aunt Betty, one who Hospice says is close to the end.  She too, like my dad, was born in September of 1941, and she too, like my dad, professes to be a Christian.

  • The Bible helps us see the glory of God’s eternal resting place, but still, we cannot fully comprehend the beauty of where God will bring those who call Him Father once our days here on earth are complete.
  • The Bible also helps us (those who know Jesus as Savior) understand the mission He has given us to do during the days we live.

In the Old Testament, the King of the universe made a choice to dwell within a bush.  The LORD set afire the bush in the desert, meeting His servant Moses there in his daily life as a shepherd and commissioning him with the task God had for him to do.  After that holy meeting and after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, God met them in the wilderness of Sinai.  They camped there in front of the mountain, and Moses (their leader) went up the mountain where the LORD called out to him—

“Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel:
‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians,
and how I bore you on eagles’ wings,
and brought you to Myself.
Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant,
then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples,
for all the earth is Mine;
and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’
These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

(Exodus 19: 3b-6 NASB)

Our relationship with God is the most important relationship in our lives.

God is our King.

We are His subjects.

God is our Father.

We are His children.

God is our Savior.

We are His possession, bought with the precious blood of Jesus, the Son of God.

God is our Redeemer.

We are His redeemed.

Therefore, we must be diligent.

In the New Testament, we are told how the King of the universe made a choice to dwell inside His people, meeting His servants (the children of God) in our daily lives.  We read how we are commissioned with the task the LORD has for us to do.

Today in 2025, we read how 166,337 people die daily without a relationship with Jesus, about two people every second.  In this time, people are far from God, and no one seems to care.

Years ago and recorded in biblical records, we read the words of the Reverend Charles Spurgeon:

“If sinners will be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies.”

Every Christian is tasked this side of heaven with sharing the Gospel with everyone this side of hell.

  • This is not a choice but a responsibility.
  • This is not an option but a command.

May we burn with the fire God has placed inside us so the world of people surrounding us might hear the Gospel and be saved.  For we know the truth JESUS HIMSELF spoke:

This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached
in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations,
and then the end will come.”

(The Gospel According to Matthew 24: 14 NASB)

The end will come for all people, so may we become burdened by their lostness, by their lack of relationship with the Savior.  If the lost surrounding us are determined to remain lost,

May we proclaim, witness, and testify of the goodness of God,

so it might be stated:  “first let them leap to hell over our bodies.”
