What Will Get Their Attention?
“He turned their heart to hate His people,
(The Book of Psalms 105: 25-36 NASB)
[The psalmist writes of how God turned Egypt’s heart against God’s people]
To deal craftily with His servants.
He sent Moses His servant,
And Aaron, whom He had chosen.
They performed His wondrous acts among them,
And miracles in the land of Ham.
He sent darkness and made it dark;
And they did not rebel against His words.
He turned their waters into blood
And caused their fish to die.
Their land swarmed with frogs
Even in the chambers of their kings.
He spoke, and there came a swarm of flies
And gnats in all their territory.
He gave them hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
He struck down their vines also and their fig trees,
And shattered the trees of their territory.
He spoke, and locusts came,
And young locusts, even without number,
And ate up all the vegetation in their land,
And ate up the fruit of their ground.
He also struck down all their firstborn in their land,
The first fruits of all their vigor.”
Oftentimes, God allows people to endure economic hardships, or loss of life, or even circumstances to become unbearably difficult. Could it also be that God allows for health issues to plague our bodies or employment to be lost, or even wars, plagues, and natural disasters to alter our seemingly “good” life?
Nevertheless, when God wants to get the attention of an un-attentive people, then God is God and He does what only He can do—Anything He Wants!
It seems as if much of what we study touches upon the children of Israel and their captivity in Egypt, their leaving on Passover, their sojourning in the desert, and their conquest against the city of Jericho as they fought for their right to step into the Promise Land.
Could it be that God knows in His wisdom that we mortals need concrete evidence?!
Probably so (or at least I do).
Then the psalmist wrote—
“Then He brought them out with silver and gold,
The Book of Psalms 105: 37-45 NASB)
And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.
Egypt was glad when they departed,
[Glad when the children of God departed from their land]
For the dread of them had fallen upon them.
He spread a cloud for a covering,
And fire to illumine by night.
They asked, and He brought quail,
And satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
He opened the rock and water flowed out;
It ran in the dry places like a river.
For He remembered His holy word
With Abraham His servant;
And He brought forth His people with joy,
His chosen ones with a joyful shout.
He gave them also the lands of the nations,
That they might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labors,
[Why did God do all this?
What Will Get Their Attention—
God’s Children & those who currently remain lost to God?]
So that they might keep His statutes
And observe His laws,
Praise the LORD!”
We are the evidence, the proof of the Hope of the Lord Jesus Christ.
May you & I—children of God—go out into the world surrounding us:
In passion
In confidence
In hope
In love
In joy &
May we serve until the Lord Jesus appears and brings us home.
The apostle Paul said it best:
“I charge you in the presence of God,
(The First Letter of Paul to Timothy 6: 13-16 NASB)
who gives life to all things,
and of Christ Jesus,
who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate,
that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach
until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
which He will bring about at the proper time—
He who is the blessed and only Sovereign,
the King of kings and Lord of lords,
who alone possesses immorality and dwells in unapproachable light,
whom no man has seen or can see.
To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.”
