A walk through life toward eternity

Darkness obscures what can be truly SEEN

Have you ever played the game ‘Hide & Go Seek’?  If you have, then the concept of hiding in the right places, hiding in the right way, and hiding totally obscure from the one going & seeking is paramount if you wish to win the game.

The Game.

The Game of play.

Truly, ‘Hide & Go Seek’ is a game for children, one we played both outdoors and indoors (whenever the weather turned bad).  For a robust game of ‘Hide & Go Seek,’ we can gather a few family members and friends for a game of ‘Manhunt.’  One of the key elements of these games is the power found in hiding inside the darkness.  See that phrase againHiding Inside the Darkness because Darkness obscures what can be truly SEEN.

God is the Master Creator for He created EVERYTHING in six days, and the Almighty either spoke EVERYTHING into existence or He fashioned what He was creating with His hands.

“The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.”

(Genesis 1: 2 NASB)

For a moment, let us consider what God created on the fourth day ‘after the beginning’ of time.

“Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;
and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”
; and it was so.”

(Genesis 1: 14-15 NASB)

Last night as we drove home from our daughter’s, my husband exclaimed, “Did you see that?!  Did you see the shooting star?”

Shooting stars are special, rare occurrences, and whenever one appears in front of our eyes, we find delight in the way God allows us to encounter His creation—the star—“for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth.”

Before the calendar or the compass or even the clock were invented, God created the heavens and the earth, the moon, the sun, and the starlight’s illumination in the sky.  Sailors needed the star’s light to direct them across the sea, and in some cases, ancient people became so fascinated with the movements of the heavenly beings that idol worship of God’s heavenly beings became a reality.

Consider:  God even saw fit to allow the shepherds out in the fields watching over their flocks to follow the STAR to find the baby in the mangerthe Messiah.

The Bible says—

“Then God said, “Let there be light” ; and there was light.
God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.”

(Genesis 1: 3-4 NASB)

Truly, God had a Master-Plan when He created EVERYTHING!

Although ‘Hide & Go Seek’ is a game for children, one we played both indoors and outdoors, we are not children any longer, so our ways of ‘play’ have changed significantly.

Consider for a moment how we ‘PLAY’ at being—

  • Okay physically,
  • Okay socially,
  • Okay mentally,
  • Okay emotionally & even
  • Okay spiritually

Yes, most definitely, darkness does obscure what must be truly SEEN.

There are two places, two positions, two realities:  Light & Dark

  1. If a person ACCEPTS, BELIEVES & CONFESSES in JESUS CHRIST as his SAVIOR and walks through his life, obediently following Jesus, then that person is a child of God, a child of the Light of the world, and that person will be ready when Jesus returns.
  2. However, if a person chooses to NOT BELIEVE, to NOT ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS SAVIOR, then that individual remains a child of spiritual darkness, one not ready for Jesus’ second coming.

HIDE & GO SEEK

  • Some people are choosing to ‘hide’ from the TRUTH of GOD.
  • Some people are placing their hopelessness on the fact that they are okay just as they are, that this life is all that really matters, or that they will just wait and see.

If a person waits until Jesus returns in the clouds, then they will have waited too long.

When I was a child playing ‘Hide & Go Seek,’ there were times when the one seeking would just become tired of the ‘hunt’ and would give up the game of play.  Oftentimes, the person hiding would not know the game of play was over until much later—when the one seeking never came, never found the one hiding.

OUR FATHER IS NOT LIKE THAT!

OUR SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST IS NOT LIKE THAT!

JESUS CAME TO SEEK & TO SAVE!

However, we have an important task—

  • We must Accept the truth!  &
  • We must Believe in Jesus who died on the cross and was raised to new life!  &
  • We must Confess our sins we commit against Holy God!

May Every Person Alive Not Walk in Darkness.

For it is the darkness, the Spiritual lostness that obscures what can be truly SEEN—the LIGHT of the WORLD—JESUS CHRIST!
