It’s Time to Be What We Are Called to Be!
“Many, LORD my God, are the
(Psalm 40: 5 NASB)
wonders which You have done,
And Your thoughts toward us;
There is no one to compare with You.
If I would declare and speak of them,
They would be too numerous to count.”
This week, I have traveled to a location where experts declare that three volcanos are “active” and “ready” to erupt. Now, truthfully, going into this week, I did not know the details surrounding the volcanos of Italy, and in fact, when the three of us (my daughters and I) were talking and making travel plans months back, the volcanos were mentioned but not accentuated.
Now, on the hindsight side, as our plane prepares to taxi for takeoff, the volcano reports seem far more traumatic. As the girls speak about what they have read, this discussion does not match in intensity the slight mention way back when we planned our trip.
- “Any time now!”
- “It could happen!”
- “The evacuation time: 24 hours!”
- “There really is no evacuation plan!”
These are the statements I am hearing today, and I must admit; as I listen to the girls speak of the volcanos, I can see that they have done their research because they know the times, places, and historical facts of the three volcanos that comprise the area of Naples & Ischia, Italy. In hearing them speak, I have concluded, we could have been in a little danger because the Eruption Color Zone (yes, the Italians have this) has moved from Green to Yellow & now Orange. The next zone—The Red Zone—is not where any of us want to go (the islanders, the city-dwellers, the travelers—NO ONE)!
Nevertheless, we must always be ready for the inevitable!
“Many, LORD my God, are the
(Psalm 40: 5a NASB)
wonders which You have done, . . . “
As we sat in our seats on the plane, prepared for takeoff, talking about the “real” scare of the volcanos, we say to one another, “We do not know?
Is this not also the way of the LORD?!! We do not know When, or Where, or How the Lord Jesus will return. We only know the What (will occur) & the Why (He will return).
“Many, LORD my God, are the
(Psalm 40: 5a NASB)
wonders which You have done,
And Your thoughts toward us;
There is no one to compare with You. . . .”
Thus, with our whole self, It’s Time to Be What We Are Called to Be!
With as much as possible, we are to Be—
- Aware of opportunities God places before us daily.
- Useful within the opportunities God allows us to impact the lives of others.
- Faithfully walking in step with the Holy Spirit.
- Seeing the world of people surrounding us as Jesus would (with eyes open & hands ready).
- Following Jesus.
- Laying aside our agenda for God’s.
- Allowing God to use us where we are & where we are sent.
- Honoring God in word and deed.
- Ready to act upon divine opportunities.
“There is no one to compare with You.
(Psalm 40: 5b NASB)
If I would declare and speak of them,
They would be too numerous to count.”
I have written in the margin of my Bible the words of theologian A. W. Tozer:
“The Christian is a holy rebel—loose in the world—with access to the throne of God.”
THEREFORE—
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
(Romans 15: 13 NASB)
