The LORD’S GREATNESS & HIS DELIVERANCE of HIS Creation
“Though I walk in the midst of
(Psalm 138: 7-8 NASB)
trouble, You will revive me;
You will reach out with Your hand
against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me.
The LORD will accomplish
what concerns me;
Your faithfulness, LORD,
is everlasting;
Do not abandon the works
of Your hands.”

Have we ever considered what God might look like?
- Will we who know Him as our Father recognize Him when we arrive home to heaven?
- Do we have an image of God, maybe one that stretches back to our childhood when our Sunday School teacher revealed to us a photo of God?
- When God speaks, do we recognize His voice?
- When God moves, do we see Him & know with assurance it is Him?
- When God arises to stand, do we bow to Him in humble adoration?
- When God sits, do we gather around His throne?
Have we ever considered the ways God might move?
In David’s 138th Psalm, he strives to help us understand the way & how God’s people can experience the LORD’S Deliverance. David writes to reveal—
- How God saves us from our enemies—Your hand reaches out to me (and to you).
- How God accomplishes what concerns us—Your faithfulness stretches into eternity.
- The way God revives us when struggles come—Your hand stretches out “in the midst of [our] trouble,”
The prophet Isaiah attempted to proclaim “THE GREATNESS OF GOD” in comparison to God’s creation—the clay. Please take out your copy of God’s Word to read with me Isaiah 40.
THE LORD’S MOUTH (Verse 5) “For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
THE LORD’S BREATH (Verse 7) “When the breath of the LORD blows upon it; the people are indeed grass!”
THE LORD’S WORD (Verse 8b) “But the word of our God stands forever.”
THE LORD’S ARM (Verse 10a & 11b) “Behold, the Lord GOD will come with might, With His arm ruling for Him. . . . In His arm He will gather the lambs. And carry them in the fold of His robe; He will gently lead the nursing ewes.”
THE LORD’S HAND (Verse 12a) “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And measured the heavens with a span, . . .?”
THE LORD’S SPIRIT & WISDOM (Verse 13 & 14) “Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has informed Him? With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge, And informed Him of the way of understanding?”
THE CLAY—the Nations of the World (Verse 15a) “Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, And are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales, . . .”
THE LORD’S LIKENESS (Verse 18) “To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare with Him?”
THE LORD’S POSITION & MAJESTY (Verse 22) “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them out like a tent to live in.”
- God is at work!
- God is at work in the world & God is at work in us (the clay)!
- God fashions everything with His hands.
- God forms and molds and creates with His purpose!
- God sees His creation & loves us!
“To whom then will you compare Me
(Isaiah 40: 25-26 NASB)
That I would be his equal?”
says the Holy One.
Raise your eyes on high
And see who has created these stars,
The One who brings out their multitude by number,
He calls them all by name;
Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power,
Not one of them is missing.”
Do you know the LORD?
Have you heard of the LORD?
Have you personally met Him as your Savior?
- He has a name.
- He never tires.
- He always provides.
- He strengthens those who are in need.
- He increases the wisdom of those who are His.
“The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth”
