What Do You Love About God?
Whenever students are revising their essays, continually I remind them to look for opportunities to combine their sentences. Oftentimes, they will find in their first drafts where they have begun sentences with the conjunction “And,” so I will encourage them to see if the sentence that begins with “And” can be combined with the preceding sentence. Many times they can.
In today’s Scripture, we can see how what comes before can too be connected to what comes first.
“And
(Hebrews 4: 13 NASB)
there is no creature hidden from His sight,
but all things are open and laid bare
to the eyes of Him to whom we must answer.”
Before we look back at verse twelve to see how that preceding verse connects, let us look first at the significance of verse thirteen.
“And . . .”—A connecting word that ties the following to the preceding words.
“there is no creature hidden from His sight, . . .”—Who can escape the eyes of a Most Holy God, who is the Creator of EVERYTHING? !!!
“but all things are open and laid bare”—What part of “all” do we not belong?
- All means ALL HUMANITY!
- All means EVERY SINGLE PERSON ALIVE!
- ALL MEANS ALL OF US!
- NO ONE IS EXEMPT FROM GOD’S JUDGMENT OF SINS!
“to the eyes of Him . . .”—What sin do we try to hide from the Father?
Do we REALLY think we are hiding anything from God?
“to whom we must answer.”—When God calls us home, when the final day of life allotted to us arrives, & When we face our eternity—
Do we know “to WHOM” will we stand as we face our eternal destiny?
These are difficult questions to read, to ponder, and to ingest. Every part of verse thirteen speaks to mankind, of which every single person belongs.
Now that we are reminded how we are accountable to God for our very existence, for our actions, for our thoughts, for our reactions, and for our eternity, let us look back at verse twelve, looking at the words that come before the “And.”
“For the Word of God is living and active,
(Hebrews 4: 12 NASB)
and sharper than any two-edged sword,
even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit,
of both joints and marrow,
and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
What Do You Love About God?
- Do we love how God’s Word is His Living Word?
- Do we love how God’s Word is active and sharp?
- Do we love that God’s Word penetrates?
- Do we love that God’s Word judges our heart’s intentions and thoughts?
- Do we love that we are never hidden from the eyes of Almighty God?
- Do we love that we are “laid bare to the eyes of Him” (the eyes of God)?
- Do we love that we must answer to God—for EVERYTHING we EVER do, say, speak, or think?
What Do You & I Love MOST About GOD?
Truly, the verse God places right after verse thirteen explains what we LOVE MOST about JEHOVAH GOD!
Let us read together & Let us lay our sins at the foot of Calvary’s cross and let us bow before the KING!
“Therefore,
(Hebrews 4: 14 NASB)
[such an amazing transitional word because it builds upon what was just revealed]
since we have a great high priest
who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus the Son of God,
let’s hold firmly to our confession.”
Wow!
Oh my, Wow!
Thank YOU GOD for sending YOUR SON!
“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,
(Hebrews 4: 15-16 NASB)
but One who has been tempted in all things just as we are,
yet without sin.
Therefore
let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace
for help at the time of our need.”
What Do You & I Love Most About Our God?
We Love That—
- Through Jesus Christ, we have empathy, knowing that He “has been tempted in all things just as we are.”
- Through Jesus, God’s Only Son, we can “approach the throne of grace with confidence.”
- Through our Savior, “we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.”
May we cling to Christ Jesus!
May we realize who we are in comparison to WHO JESUS IS!
God sent Jesus to this earth because HE KNEW WE NEEDED A SAVIOR—every day of our lives!
God sent Jesus to us because JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY TO COME TO KNOW GOD!
God sent Jesus to provide THE WAY TO RECEIVE HIS ETERNAL SALVATION!
“Walking Free” by Micah Tyler speaks through song this TRUTH.
- Please pause to listen.
- Please pause to rejoice.
- Please pause to pray & praise our KING of Kings!
- Please pause to bow and ask God to reveal the sin that has crept into your life as I do the same.
THEN—
Let us kneel upon our knees and repent our sins to GOD!
THANK YOU FATHER FOR SENDING JESUS TO DIE FOR MANKIND!
THANK YOU FATHER FOR RESURRECTING JESUS FROM THE GRAVE!
THANK YOU GOD FOR YOUR FREE OFFER OF SALVATION!
Resurrection Sunday is only a few brief days away from today.
- May we prepare our hearts.
- May we be ready to meet God.
- May we repent our sins to our High Priest Jesus.
- May we cling to Christ.
- May We Never Forget What We Love Most About God!
“and He Himself brought our sins in His body up on the cross,
(1 Peter 2: 24 NASB)
so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness;
by His wounds you were healed.”
