The SAVIOR Stands Ready! (We need to only) Open the Door to SEE!
Consider with me all types of doors—
- The exciting—our door to explore.
- The lovely—our door to relationship with another.
- The obvious—our door to our home.
- The hopeful—our door of opportunity.
- The unavoidable–our door of disappointment.
- The exaggerated—our door to do our own thing and to walk in our own way.
- The probable—our door to our birth and to our death. &
- The spiritual—our door to invite Jesus into our heart!
One constant remains true: a doorway remains closed until it is opened!
Within God’s Holy Word, the prophet Isaiah was given these words to help us understand. Please pause to read with me.
“Therefore the LORD longs
(Isaiah 30: 18-22 NASB)
to be gracious to you,
And therefore He waits on high
to have compassion on you
For the LORD is a God of justice;
How blessed are all those
who long for Him.
For, you people in Zion, inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will weep no longer. He will certainly be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you.
Although the Lord has given you bread of deprivation and water of oppression, He your Teacher, will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will see your Teacher.
Your ears will hear a word behind you saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
And you will desecrate your carved images plated with silver, and your cast metal images plated with gold. You will scatter them as a filthy thing, and say to them, “Be gone!”
If you could see my stature, you might exclaim, “My, my, you are so short.” If that seems too crude, too offensive, then you might sweetly say, “You are so petite.” Nevertheless, the truth remains the truth—I am short! This truth becomes even more apparent as I age because I believe I have shrunk. What I once could reach, could see, or could tiptoe to see, no longer can I stretch to see.
Go with me into a commonplace: a hallway with many apartment doorways. That is where I found myself last week. My daughter had moved with her husband into a repurposed hospital, one that has become 208 separate dwellings for families. Inside this newly-renovated building, the hallways are grand in size, stretching almost twenty-feet wide. Staggered from side-to-side and going upward for three separate levels are various doorways. During the refurbishing process, the contractors have completely shut and sealed some doorways to re-design the building into the separate apartments, while making the other doorways the new entryways for the renovated apartments that families can rent. It was there, on the inside of this building, where I found myself standing before these various doorways.
- “Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you,”—Yes God’s Grace is freely given by the Father!
- “And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you”—Yes, God’s Mercy is sufficient and compassionate!
- “For the LORD is a God of justice;”—Yes, God’s Word assures us, promises a day of reckoning!
- “How blessed are all those who long for Him.”—Yes, God sent us Jesus, the Savior Who Stands Ready at our heart door, knocking!
Now, I like to play. It’s a truth, and I can be just silly acting at times. Just ask my husband, my daughters, my friends, or my family. They would each agree with me. Thus, as I walked down the wide hallway toward my daughter’s apartment, there were so many doors, and I could not resist looking in the peephole of a doorway, to see what I could see.
NOTHING!
Even though I found my stature tall enough to stretch up to see (because the floor of the hallway was slightly elevated), I could not see anything inside the apartment, where I was attempting to look inside.
Thus, I gave up my pursuit—until my daughter’s apartment door had been reached.
Then, I attempted to look through the peephole within the doorway (while standing within her apartment). I realized my petite height kept me from being able to stretch my head high enough to even see through the peephole of the doorway.
Immediately, I turned and exclaimed to the girls: “I will need to open the door to see!”
- “He will certainly be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you.”—Jesus stands ready beside your heart’s door!
- “He your Teacher, will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will see your Teacher.”—Once we open the door, with our spiritual eyes, we will see Jesus!
- “Your ears will hear a word behind you saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.”—When we open our heart-door, Jesus will come in to stay, to dwell forever within us!
The SAVIOR Stands Ready! (We need to only) Open the Door to SEE!
The Apostle John, the beloved disciple of Jesus, was given a vision of God. It is under the LORD’S authority, we READ, HEAR, and SEE these words of our SAVIOR JESUS:
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock;
(Revelation 3: 20 NASB)
if anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him and will dine with him,
and he with Me,”
