My Husband—A Walking, Breathing, Living Miracle!
“All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness;
(2 Timothy 3: 16-17 NASB)
so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.”
In 1984, I was young, and I was in love. We were graduating from high school (my husband and I), a boy I met in school and grew to know more and more as we rode the school bus.
Young love is amazing!
In walking toward our 37th year of marriage, I find myself looking back to those days when we first met, when we discovered that what we shared was something worth holding onto, that just maybe this love could last a lifetime.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, . . .”
When we first met, we were just kids, sixth-graders. As we grew up attending school together, we became friends. At age fifteen, I became a believer, but my friend was not a believer.
“All Scripture is inspired by God [God-breathed] and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, . . .”
As I reflect back on our early friendship:
- one that grew into hanging out,
- and then to dating,
- and then love,
- one of the most difficult conversations we shared was one I spoke of separating.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; . . .”
Bro. Jim was our pastor, and my parents allowed Darrell to “date” me during church. So Darrell came to church each Sunday, something he did not grow up getting to do. We sat side-by-side listening to the sermons about God’s love and God’s peace and God’s salvation. Now, I was still a baby-Christian back then (having accepted the Lord into my heart at the age of fifteen); nonetheless, I knew enough, had studied the Bible enough, and had heard enough biblical teaching to know that marrying someone who did not believe in Jesus as his Savior would cause anguish during the marriage.
So I did the only thing I knew to do: I told Darrell that we could only be “friends.”
“All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, . . .”
- All Scripture is God-breathed!
- All Scripture is helpful to our learning about Jehovah God!
- All Scripture is necessary to reveal where we stand with Almighty God!
- All Scripture is required for someone to turn from walking away from God and turn toward walking toward God’s Salvation!
- All Scripture, once believed and accepted, has the power of God to make a lost person—righteous & God’s forevermore child!
“Darrell, we can only be ‘friends,’ and nothing more.”
Those were some of the most difficult words I had ever spoken.
You know, GOD IS GOOD—ALL THE TIME!
You know, GOD WORKS MIRACLES IN PEOPLE’S HEARTS—EVERY DAY!
GOD WORKED A MIRACLE IN MY HEART WHEN I WAS JUST FIFTEEN! &
GOD WORKED A MIRACLE IN MY FRIEND’S HEART WHEN HE WAS JUST SEVENTEEN!
My “friend” was a really “good” young man. He did not curse, smoke, drink, or party. He was atypical to many high school students. It’s so difficult to look at a “good” person, one who walks with integrity, and know that at their death, they have no HOPE of heaven because they remain lost to God.
Truly, it’s so much easier to look at those in the world who do “bad” things, who murder, steal, lie, and commit all types of heinous actions, and know that at their death, they have no HOPE of heaven because they remain lost to God.
Even after our “just friends” conversation, my good friend continued to attend church with me.
God’s Word is wonderful and truly amazing!
- It is profitable for our soul.
- It provides training for our earthly walk.
- It guides all of our decisions.
God’s Holy Word brings peace to our being as God’s Amazing Grace brings salvation to our soul once we choose to give our heart to God.
It was then, when I was a teenager, that I saw how God was a miracle-maker!
Bro. Jim continued to bring messages each Sunday.
My good friend and I sat side-by-side in church.
Then, during the weekdays, my friend and I sat side-by-side on my mom’s school bus.
God’s Word has the power to make a lost person—whole!
God is a miracle-maker!
“All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness;
(2 Timothy 3: 16-17 NASB)
so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.”
At age seventeen, my “good” friend became my brother-in-Christ & so,
At age seventeen, my “saved” friend became my “best” friend, and we memorized 2 Timothy 3: 16-17 together.
At age nineteen, my “best” friend became my husband.
At age thirty-two, my godly husband became the father of our child.
At age thirty-nine, when my husband deployed with the Navy to Iraq, I saw his dad become a Christian (to begin his walk toward heaven with my mother-in-law, a believer already).
At age forty-two, when our daughter was nine, I was with her at church during VBS, when my husband and I saw her give her heart to Jesus.
At age forty-nine, my husband & brother-in-Christ agreed with me to open our home to another young girl, one we have come to love as our own, & we have faith & believe that she too will one day know Jesus as her Savior.
Now, at age fifty-six, my beautiful soul-mate walks with me, going through this life beside me.
As we go through this earthly life, we are walking toward our eternity—together—hand-in-hand, with God.
One day soon, my husband & I will forevermore remain in heaven with Jesus!
Thank You, God, for My Husband Darrell—a Walking, Breathing, Living Miracle!
GOD’S LOVE IS FOR ALL!
- GOD CAME TO US!
- GOD BECAME FLESH FOR US IN JESUS!
GOD DWELT AMONG US, THROUGH THE PERSON OF JESUS, & LIVED A PERFECT, SINLESS LIFE!
- JESUS DIED UPON THE CROSS OF CALVARY!
- JESUS AROSE FROM THE GRAVE THREE DAYS LATER!
- JESUS ASCENDED BACK TO HEAVEN & SAT AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD!
&
- JESUS WILL COME AGAIN—FOR US—IF WE BELIEVE IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST & ACCEPT HIM AS OUR SAVIOR & LORD!
YES, THAT IS RIGHT!
IT IS THE GOSPEL MESSAGE!
- JESUS DIED & AROSE FROM THE GRAVE, OVERCOMING DEATH, FOR ALL HUMANITY—FOR ALL WHO BELIEVE IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST & ACCEPT HIM AS SAVIOR & LORD!
The goal of all God-breathed Scripture—for a person to encounter the Living God!
Yes! Thank You, God, for saving a sinner such as me!
Truly, I cannot fathom what life would be like if God had not saved me from my lostness!
- Thank You, God, for parents who had “rules” about dating.
- Thank You, God, for giving Bro. Jim messages of salvation & for his obedience to deliver Your messages.
- Thank You, God, for the power of You alive and living in us!
- Thank You, God, for Your Holy Spirit who dwells in all Christians!
- Thank You, God, for Your Scripture, the Word made flesh, for Jesus Christ, our Savior!
“Feels Like A Blessing” by Benjamin William Hastings & JUDAH is a wonderful melody for the way I am praising God today.
God, Thank You, for giving me My Husband Darrell—a Walking, Breathing, Living Miracle!
