We Are to Look, Sound, Act, & Be More Like Him!
“Sometimes I think he looks just like my mom’s brother’s sons and other times I think he looks just like his dad.”
“She looks just like her daddy. Yes, it’s quite amazing how much she favors him.”
“When I look at her, I see her blue eyes, and that throws me off somewhat because she looks and acts so much like her dad, even though his eyes are brown.”
We each look like SOMEBODY who came before us. It’s in our genes, our DNA, our heritage, and our genetics. It is undeniable. It is basic biology. It is improbable that a child could be born and look like NO ONE who came before that child because genetics pass down undeniable traits.
Let me explain by using my beautiful husband as my example.
In 1982, I became acquainted with his dad and mom.
In 1986, we married, and they became my family.
In the beginning, I only saw my husband and not his parents because I did not know them well.
In the beginning, I only desired sharing time with my husband and not them because I did not know them well.
Then war took my husband to another continent.
Then the decision was made that we would build a home while he was away fighting in the war.
Then, I began seeing them daily, sharing short conversations with them each day after work when I would stop by the building site.
That was when I began to notice the way my husband looked and acted so much like his parents.
That was when I noticed how their DNA was a significant part of his genetics.
He looked somewhat like his mom, but he danced just like her.
He looked a little like his dad, but he spoke phrases that sounded just like him.
Even though my husband was living eight hours ahead of me in time, I saw him daily in the presence of his parents.
Since that day, he has been deployed other times to accomplish other military tasks.
Since that day, I fell in love with his parents who became like extra parents to me.
Since that day, his daddy found and accepted the truth in knowing Jesus as his Savior.
Since that day, both his mom and dad have passed from this life into eternity and now remain with God for eternity.
Since that day, my husband has come home, and as we grow older, I continually SEE and HEAR his parents more and more in his words, actions, and in the way he processes things.
- Is that not the biblical way?!!
- Is that not also what the Bible instructs God’s children to be?!!
- Is that not how each Christian should strive to become—more and more and more—like Jesus?!!!
Today, I am confronted with the truth that God loves me.
I am face-to-face with this reality.
I found this truth within God’s Word, and while I was reading there, the Holy Spirit of God reminded me, convicted me of areas of my life where I do not look so much like my Savior.
I found this reality, and today, I am writing about this TRUTH of GOD because it’s so important for me to never forget.
We are to look and sound and act like Jesus—more today than yesterday & even more tomorrow than today. I know, this almost seems impossible, but the Bible tells us so, and because it does, then we know it’s the ABSOLUTE TRUTH!
So, please do not (ever) believe me but see God’s Truth found within His Word found in the book of Romans.
“For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?
But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.
In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; . . . .”
(Romans 8: 24-26a)
Coming to Christ is an event that changes us.
Coming to Christ is a process, a growth, that begins within us at the moment God saves us.
Coming to Christ is a lifelong goal, a growing to look, to sound, to act, & to be MORE & MORE & MORE—like Jesus—than we are like ourselves.
Coming to Christ is looking in our life-mirror and praising HIM in how He draws us closer so we can begin to resemble our Savior.
Coming to Christ is realizing that we have so much more growing in our spiritual maturity before we reach the end of our days here on earth—before we see Jesus face-to-face.
We Are to Look, Sound, Act, & BE MORE LIKE HIM.
More Today than Yesterday.
More Tomorrow than Today.
MORE!
“What then shall we say to these things?
If God is for us, who is against us?
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things.
Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; [saves us]
who is the one who condemns?
Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised [from the dead], who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? . . .
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, [NOTHING] will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Romans 8: 31-35a & 38-39)
Hallelujah! Thank You Jesus.
Hallelujah! Thank You God.
Hallelujah! Thank You Holy Spirit.
Help me today to Look & Sound & Act & Be Like YOU More On This Day.
Reveal in me what characteristics need to change.
Reveal in me what actions need to change.
Recall to my mind the qualities in me that need to die so that I can see more of YOU in me.
Help me become more like YOU and less like me.
I ask this today.
In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
