Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

May We Set the Table So Others May Join & Be Seated at the Banquet

  • What would you do right now, if you knew there was no way you could fail?
  • What would you build today, if you knew there was no possible way it would fall?
  • What would you put your hands to do, if failure or destruction were thwarted (stopped) and success was guaranteed?

Immediately, most may think of a business they might open OR a book they may write OR a relationship with another they would enter into OR even a location they might move to.  So, let us consider:

We need to set the table for whom we want to come.

Now maybe you just read that last sentence and scratched your head, thinking, ‘Whatever does that mean?’

What we put our hands to accomplish today will have two possible values.  Either we will store up treasures that we can keep inside our homes, in our bank accounts, or carry on our person—OR—we will store up treasures in heaven.  Also true is that what we put our hands to build today will become two possible structures.  Either we will build up our own reputation—OR—we will help build God’s kingdom.  Thirdly and finally, what we put our hands to do or to build will not stand—OR—we will put our hands to build as we are willing to do what the LORD leads us to do, secure, build, or store.

  • IT CANNOT FAIL!
  • IT WILL NOT BE THWARTED!
  • IT CANNOT BE STOPPED!
  • IT WILL NOT BE OVERTHROWN!

When Jesus came to the town of Caesarea Philippi, He began to ask His disciples what the people were saying about Him.  To be sure, the Lord Jesus was not seeking popularity as some individuals seek in our world.  Rather, Jesus was seeking to build His church.

“He said to them,
But who do you say that I am?”
“Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
And Jesus said to him,

“Blessed are you, Simon Barjona,
because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church;
and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven;
and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven”

(The Gospel According to Matthew 16: 15-19 NASB)

It really comes down to a single question whenever we are given the divine opportunity to witness, the same question the Messiah asked Simon Peter.

But who do you say that I am?

The progress of the church (the body of believers in Jesus Christ) will not be stopped by the defense of the devil, of Satan, of hell.  I encourage you to re-read that last statement.  NOTHING will ever stop the power of God.  Again, I encourage you (and me) to dwell there in our thoughts.  The church will advance & we will prevail—forever.

Let us know WHY.

The church will advance and the children of God will prevail—forever in eternity with God—through our confession of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Messiah. Let us be vocal; Let us testify.

  • We will overcome!
  • We will succeed!
  • We will win the final battle over death!

In fact, Jesus has already won the victory, defeating death, the final enemy.  If this does not make you stand up and shout, “Hallelujah,” then maybe you should get down on your knees and talk with God the Father.

The church will prevail and will advance through the confession that JESUS IS THE MESSIAH!

  • May We Set the Table So Others May Join. &
  • May We Be Seated at the Lord’s Banquet Table.

JESUS said:

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock;
if anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him and will dine with him,
and he with Me.
He who overcomes,
I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne,
as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
He who has an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

(The Revelation to John 3: 20-22 NASB)
