Escape the fear of the Coming Roar
- Have you ever wondered about the impact of your faith on others?
- Is it possible that your actions affect others?
- When others are fearful, do they see your love for Jesus and the peace He provides in your life?
Last night, the celebration of the 4th of July began across the field from our home, and while the fireworks could not fully be seen, they could be heard. Now, if you do not know: We are dog-sitting for our daughter, and like many canines, Maple (the dog) does not especially enjoy loud and sudden BOOMS.
In fact, I believe they scare her to death.
Usually our late-evening routine involves Maple resting on ‘her’ couch that has been covered with a sheet to catch some of her daily shedding, while we sit on “our” reclining couch. Last evening, with all the loud BOOMS, Maple could not find peace but paced around the room, resting her head on the edge of my couch cushion, or lying beside me on the floor. She was sad, and I was sad that she was so fearful. After a few minutes, I moved over to sit beside her on “her” sheet-covered couch, to rest my hand on her body, & to offer her the assurance she desperately needed.
Unfortunately, I know that tonight (July 4th) may even be more stressful for her, requiring me to sit close again, to cuddle with her, and to provide her peace for her troubled heart.
Maybe you think this is a silly analogy, but in its simplicity, I believe the BOOM of the fireworks found on the 4th of July celebration, Maple’s fear & my close proximity all remind me of the peace found in the LORD JESUS.
Let me explain.
“giving thanks to the Father,
(The Letter of Paul to the Colossians 1: 12-14 NASB)
who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness,
and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,
in whom we have redemption,
the forgiveness of sins.”
- God the Father & God the Son were both in the beginning.
- In the beginning, everything was created by the LORD.
- God sent His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to earth.
- Jesus is God in the flesh, the One who came to dwell among us, who became like us, yet remained without sin.
- Jesus was born to die, to lay down His life, to sacrifice Himself for our sins.
This is not my thinking but the truth of God’s Holy Word.
The writer of the letter sent to the Hebrews wrote these words, quoting Old Testament prophecy—
““And,
(The Letter to the Hebrews 1: 10-12 NASB)
YOU, LORD,
IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH,
AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;
THEY WILL PERISH, BUT YOU REMAIN;
AND THEY ALL WILL BECOME OLD LIKE A GARMENT,
AND LIKE A MANTLE YOU WILL ROLL THEM UP;
LIKE A GARMENT THEY WILL ALSO BE CHANGED.
BUT YOU ARE THE SAME,
AND YOUR YEARS WILL NOT COME TO AN END.”
One day, Jesus will come again!
On that day, the earth and the heavens will pass away, and on that day, there will be a GREAT NOISE. Fire will burn it all away, as judgment comes and God makes all things new.
Again, this is not my thinking but the truth of God’s Holy Word.
“Know this first of all,
(The 2nd Letter of Peter 3: 3-7 & 10 NASB)
that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking,
following after their own lusts,
and saying,
“Where is the promise of His coming?
For ever since the fathers fell asleep,
all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.”
For when they maintain this,
it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,
through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.
But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire,
kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
. . .
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief,
in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat,
and the earth and its works will be burned up.”
On that day (when JESUS returns to earth), believers in Jesus will disappear from the earth as Jesus gathers us in the clouds, while other people will pace in fear, unsure what is happening but scared, nonetheless. In fact, I believe they will be scared to death, much like our daughter’s canine was scared to death by the loud BOOMS and by the large firework display in the sky.
- She could not find any peace because her heart was filled with fear. &
- She could not escape the loud noise because it consumed her entire being.
Followers of Jesus have no fear.
We know exactly what that LOUD BOOM will be on that day—when JESUS COMES!
At the trumpet of the LORD—“in which the heavens will pass away with a roar” JESUS WILL DESCEND!
- The moment we believe in the work of Jesus on the cross and in the grave, God gave us His Peace. &
- The moment we believed in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, God gave us His eternal life.
THIS IS GOD’S AMAZING GRACE.
So, in closing, listen to the melody “Oh Death” by MercyMe proclaiming the truth, reminding us just exactly what Jesus did for us.
Pause to listen. Dance. Tap your Toe. Twirl. & Raise your Hands, thanking the Lord Jesus Christ—
who has completely removed the sting of death &
who has given victory to those who believe in Him.
